Speedo pinion

Hey guys,
Long story short, My 1200 speedo no longer works after I got my gearbox reco'd. I've checked the speedo cable and connection to the back of the cluster in the dash which is fine, I then moved onto the speedo pinion cog splines which looked abit worn down, ended up fiddling around with it trying to make a flush contact with speedo spline in the gearbox resulting in the speedo slightly fluctuating up and down but not managing a constant reading then it stopped completely. I'm thinking the speedo pinion itself has been worn down over the years not allowing it to make a constant reading, Does the 60a share the same speedo pinion cog as the 4 speeds or are they different ? I cannot find a 60a speedo pinion anywhere. If you think I may have diagnosed this problem wrong, I'm open to comments and suggestions. Much Appreciated, Jake

I'm thinking upgrading my brakes and steering before I place in a new engine, just trying to think smart about how to go about this car, cheers b310gx for those contacts.

I read somewhere that one of the stock diffs have studs and the other has bolts ? I'd love to upgrade to front disc brakes though and upgrade handling. This is my first project and dont want it to be too technical, kind of my way of getting into the whole building cars scene.

I come off my p's in july so my limits are then beyond. I'll do my research via wiki and weigh up the pros and cons of the a series motors, this car will be my daily so i'm not looking for insane hp. I was thinking the H165 but wanted a reassurance from some of the gurus.

Stock1200, that's the exact approach I'm going for. Just a neat little sleeper that has got a little get up and go ! Am I better off with the a15 or stick to an a14 ? I have 60a 5 speed dog leg & HD Clutch currently but thinking upgrading the diff once I've put in the new engine..

Only downside is my 1200 is my daily so I'm looking for another engine to build on the side so I am still able to get to work and back. I rarely see a14s and a15s for sale though or am I looking in the wrong spots ?

I'm leaning towards an a15 but work the engine, is it possible for these engine to run mid high 14s N/A with the right internal modifications, twin carbies etc.. ?

Engine upgrade question

Hey guys,
I got myself a 1200 ute about 8 months ago with an a14 in it, I'm looking at upgrading to an engine with a bit more get up and go but not extremely technical to fit into my pride and joy. Just something that I can build on the side then fit in once completed. Being an apprentice mechanic, this will be a great experience for me to gain knowledge in this field of automotive. Can could someone please tell me which engines are easier to engineer then others ? Much Appreciated, Jake |
