#11 Re: Valve guides for GX head?
mrsprite Posted on: 2008/7/21 11:25
I've found a supplier online, so if Nissan can't get them then I think I am set. Won't know for sure until later this morning.

Thanks! I tried the parts houses, but nobody lists the guides. I'll check out the dealership in the morning.

#13 Valve guides for GX head?
mrsprite Posted on: 2008/7/20 21:32
Does anyone have part numbers for the valve guides used on a GX head? I am having trouble finding any info on them.

Would prefer bronze, but at this point anything is better than what I have!

I got my issue with Pertronix figured out. Evidently, some Datsuns came with distributors that have a slightly larger diameter shaft between where the rotor sits and the cam for the points is......this is why teh magnet sleeve would not fit.

Pertronix is sending me a replacement magnet and I will bring my shaft in to have the protrusion lathed down enough to make it all work.

According to the guy I talked to at Pertronix, they developed the Datsun kit before they found out about these other, larger shafts and by then it was too late to redesign things.

Thanks........I finally figured out what I did wrong!

As for the distributor.....I have owned this car for 2 years and it takes the points, condenser, cap & rotor for a '77 Datsun B210, so I have to believe it is a stock distributor.

Is it possible that Pertronix put the wrong magnet thing in the box? I'm going to give their customer service a call in a few minutes.....hopefully we can figure this out.

OK.....I just bought a Pertronix kit (#1741) and tried to install it, but the magnet thing that fits around the distributor shaft was too small and it broke trying to get it on!

How hard should it be to put this on the shaft? Could I have a distributor on my A15 that is not stock? How can I tell which distributor I have?

My engine is an '82 A15 that (as far as I know) is running a '77 distributor....it uses points & condenser, not the elcetric version.

Sorry for all the questions.....I'm just a little miffed from breaking a brand new part that I just spent $70 on.

Here are a few pics.....you can see where the magnet is getting stuck in the last pic. I had it down where it was flush with the top, but it wouldn't go down any further.

So....is this a Datsun distributor?

Thanks for the replies. I think I will go with the Centerforce clutch......not much more than the Exedy and I have heard lots of good things about them.

You aren't the only one with a Datsun A series engine in something different! I have a '59 Austin-Healey Sprite with an A15 engine and there is another guy with an A15 in his '78 MG Midget.

I must say though, I think yours is the first Fiat that I've heard with this swap.

Welcome!

#19 Which clutch to buy?
mrsprite Posted on: 2007/6/10 23:06
Hello! It seems the clutch in my A15 powered Austin-Healey Sprite decided to go out on me. I believe the pressure plate diaphragm springs gave out, but I won't know until I pull it all apart. Anyway, I was pricing various clutch kits and was wondering what brand is recommended by you guys?

I can get a generic brand kit (NPN?) for $65 US, an Exedy brand for $95 US or I can get a Centerforce brand kit for $120 US. I am leaning towards the Centerforce clutch, but what do I know?

Any recommendations? Thanks! :)

Hey Rick....yeah, I finally posted something here (I've been a lurker for awhile though). I see the occasional LBC and we do the same wave and a smile thing. I saw a '59-ish MGA last night, unfortunately I was with someone else and not in my Bugeye. Oh well.

I've been digging around under the hood (bonnet?) lately myself.....I pulled off the stupid fuel pressure regualtor that the PO installed (not sure why it was there) and now the car drives better and loves the upper RPM's. I can only assume that it restricted the fuel flow at the higher revs.

Of course, now the clutch is giving me fits. I think the slave is toast, but the PO modified it since it is very close to the frame rail and it's not as simple as buying a new one and slapping it on. Great! :)

The "A15" you see is all you need to know. There should also be the serial number of the block stamped next to it as well. It apears as though yours is indeed an A15 then. Just have to see about that head!

As far as these guys being gurus.....you are correct! Lots of knowledgeable people here who are nice enough to answer my stupid noob questions. :D

Oh....BTW, I found a Weber 32/36 mounted on an A15 manifold in my box 'o parts. If you decide not to do the twin SU thing and want to ditch that Hitachi LMK!
