i'm going through my photo collections and there are a lot of miscellaneous B310 pics. Time to get them into the Tech Section before they disappear with time

Starting with the Clock article which has some detailed info about B110 Datsun 1200 clocks, including photos, wiring diagrams, parts numbers

Last year put together quite a bit for the B210 Clock

Now time for the 4th gen Sunny, the B310 1977-1982 model series. This has a great dashboard -- or two. The early round-headlight models have round gauges in pods and the later square headlight cars have a modern-looking flat dash with round gauges. Both are superb but with different vibes

GX models had a full complement of engine gauges, so there is no room for a clock in the gauge cluster. Instead, a small clock is placed in the center stack, above the radio

The GX had an analog clock i think, while the SGX had a digital clock (QUARTZ clock)

So the GX came with an old-fashioned analog clock. It wasn't as super as the SGX

It's the same shape and goes in the same spot as the digital clock. Same connector but missing one pin (has 3 pins)

The lesser B310 trims -- base, DL and GL -- used a cluster gauge in a 2-large + 2-small format

Cool video from 32builds

V I D E O : DATSUN BUILD - REAR AXLE RUST REMOVAL (#14)

Michael takes the axle from old and rusty to new and shiny. Only took 12 minutes. It is a ute H165 axle with the semi-sealed bearings. The vid has a an upbeat fusion-jazz soundtrack

I like how he uses patio furniture to reassemble it

Yes he is quite inventive with what he has. I think his outdoor table gets a free colour change with overspray at one point.

Pretty keen of him to attempt a full build in an underground car park.

It ‘s a shame he stopped updating his channel a couple of years ago.
He must have either sold his Ute or got evicted

Datsun 1200 GX Coupe imported from South Africa, rear axle oil seals leak

Dear All

I have a Datsun 1200 GX Coupe (1975 model) imported from South Africa, I live in Queensland, Australia. My mechanic says (during her most recent service) that both the oil seals on the rear axle leaks the diff oil onto the rear brake shoes. I replaced the rear brake shoes 2 years ago, it was a big deal to source the parts as her brake shoes are very different from the Datsun 1200 sold here in Australia.

Now I wonder about the rear axle, and the oil seals. Are they also gonna be different and difficult to obtain here in Australia? Or is the diff and rear axle the same as the Datsun 1200 sold in Australia?

One of my friends says it was some local content story in 1975 that caused them to put different brake shoes on her in SA.

any advice and insights appreciated.

regards

JC
