Ignition is one place you guys in the States win over us fellas down under. Electronic ignition wasn't fitted to our A series engines. I have a couple of the Hitachi set ups which I bought new years ago from our Nissan agent but they were a special order item. Occassionally you can get lucky and find one on the Jap import vans but they are usually pretty stuffed. I converted my A14 GX dizzy to twin point by drilling another set of holes 180' to the others and using a double spade fitting for the power lead. I could'nt see the point ( no pun intended) of spending heaps on a Mallory set up when I could do it myself!!

I'm not in Washington anymore, but I used to live over on the West Side also, in Puyallup. My dad and I had several 1200's while we lived there, but now we only have 3 all together. I had one for a while that got me through college and ended up selling it just before I left WA last summer. It's off-white with slotted mags, a guy on McChord AFB bought it from me, so If you see it driving around it used to be mine!! I was able to get a really nice one in California before I left WA, it only had 69,000 miles on it...the interior is the best I've ever seen on a 1200, and the body needs a few spots fixed to be perfect, but it's not bad. There's a guy up in Lynnwood that I met up with once who has a hopped up 1200 sedan, he's part of the club too, but I haven't seen him on for a while. He just got his painted canary yellow w/black racing stripes. He's got a rebuilt A15 w/dual Weber DGV's, cam, 5 speed. I've seen quite a few 1200's running around WA when I lived there, but here in Texas I have only seen two at a Datsun car show last October. What all has been done to the engine in that green/white car? I'm getting ready to swap out my GX induction for a pair of 40mm DCOE's so we'll see how that goes. Anyways, welcome to the club!

Just get one from a 120Y or 310. It fits right in except you may need to swap the hold-down brackets. It is a very simple hookup, with just two or three wires. Get the whole setup, including coil, distributor and wires and it is fairly easy to figure out.
This is likely the best modification that can be made to an A12 engine. No more difficult starts on wet days.

Hi linc the toyota box is a great box a lot closer and more even spacing than the datsun 5 speed (unless you can afford and option box) with the dellow kit all you have to do is unbolt the front bellhousing and bolt on the new dellow adapter bellhousing change the clutch and spigot bush. the gear shift is back a little further than the standard datsun box around 30-40mm from memory. the speedo cable fits up no problems you will have to remove the standard datsun gearbox mounting plates (humps out of the tunnel with bolt holes)and manufacture a new crossmember I used some 50x6mm flat plate and drilled holes in the appropriate spots and made sandwich plates for inside so the bolts dont pull through. A new tailshaft will also have to be made other than this I cant think of anymore work. The kit comes with most the bits and instructions so for anyone with a bit of mechanical knowledge shouldnt have to many troubles. cheers Andrew

You'll have to ask ca18detman (Andrew) about that one. He did it, himself, and I'm sure he's got the lowdown on what's required.

Yeah, they also produced some vans in japan and europe or australia, I think, with injected a series engines. The manifolds are out there somewhere, I will find one.
