The later, 79 up, A14 motors had 65 HP. The A12 had 69 HP. The 77 and 78 A14 had 80 HP. The A14 that you had was probably a low HP motor. I have a low HP A14 in Mareo Speedwagon VI with
a dog-leg 5-speed that has that first & second gear noted Datsun whine. It will pull around 115 MPH on an open road and get 43 MPG at 70 MPH. I get 65 MPG if I cruise 50. It's not the
quickest car around but it is economical. I have a Holly 2-bbl carb on it. I just picked up a 80 HP A14 to build for that car.

I reckon the A12 carby and exhaust would be restricting the engine somewhat, The A12 head has small round inlet ports, where the A14 has larger oval shaped ports. so
try an A14 inletexhaust manifold and Carby first.

Someone posted sometime ago about using a 200sx rear axle in a 1200. I believe they said that you only have to cut off the existing bracketry and fab leaf spring mounts. My
question is, how does the length of that axle compare to a 1200 or B-210? I don't want to have the thing shortened.

It seems to me that the stock a14 had the same horsepower as the 12.. When I had
the a14 in my
car I had a GX Cam in it and a bigger carb.
with hedders and a 2 inch exhaust. it really
screamed. I put the A12 back in for smog reasons
but kept the gx cam and 2 inch exhaust. Now
no more smog so here comes CA18DE or ???

Simon,

Let me correct you : The Maxima comes STANDARD with a manual trans - you have to pay extra for the slushbox. You can't even get a Camry, Accord, or Taurus with V6/
manual trans.

Also, our 2000 Maxima is plenty fast for a stock 4-door. Consider the new Maxima has as much horsepower as the '90-'96 300ZX (222hp), and is faster than the non-
turbo 222hp ZX.

Yes, the Pathfinder VQ35DE does come with a 5-speed. Also ,the 5-speed equipped VQ35DE pathfinder (& QX4's for that matter) have 250hp compared to 240hp
of the automatic Pathfinders.

No need to swap a Maxima motor an convert it.
