what i'm referring to is a auto trans dyno
which was originally built for the tafe's.
they had a holden 202 on the front
(i think the original was a 161) and you
could adapt all soughts of trans to it and load
it to simulate driving. Of course you already
have the engine/trans combo and need the
brake.

what you need is an electromagnetic
"retarder" or "brake" off a bus or small
truck, they have variable load. And of
coarse you need 3 phase power to run it.

i think your on the money with valve spring
control, suprising how often that is over
looked. The end result is usually valves and
pistons crashing-which makes a big mess!!

Edit: The point about free revving is that it
does not correctly simulate problems which occur
under load. I have had ignition
problems undetectable in the pits but cronic
and undriveable on the track. If an engine is
going to fly apart, especially with standard
parts, it will be with big revs & no load.

Don't free rev an engine to 7000rpm, thats
not gunna tell you squat. Only bush
mechanics free rev engines, it just breaks
stuff

In the member register there appears to be
9 members from Bendigo who have logged
in in 2009, and a few more that have not.
