the sunny is a farm hack... I'm not having a rare gearbox in my car i'd regret it later!

as for A12's I have 5 of them - 3 run! they are nice but I want more POWER!

edit SIX - I forgot the one in the silver sunny nearly does run...

hi guys I want to know...

can a manual spec A14/A15 be put in front of a 3N71B (3 speed auto? or it be as gutless as?

as I think the latest sunny might be an auto... I'm not sure... I will have to check when I pick it up next time I go up to dad's place...

I'm not doing another manual conversion.... converting "The Defect" to a manual was 5 days of hell!

but if it is a manual I do have that F4W60L... (A14 four speed)

I know that there is a full manual Valve Body available for the Jatco 3N71B-L4N71B some company in sydney makes them...

$1000

don't under estimate the 3N71A-3N71B-4N71B and the L4N71B

they were fitted in everything from Datsun 1000's to Patrols!

they are strong gearboxes! I did many a reverse to firsts in "the Defect" before foolishly removing it for a F4W60L 4 speed...

on the(auto) pedal box there is a switch - disconnect the wires to said switch - the wires that went to that switch hook up to a switch mounted on the dash - instant POWER/ECONOMY mode!

I wish I had known about that BEFORE the 4 speed conversion!

the BW 68 will cope with a 200 BHP L18!...

having said that the BW68 that did that was a CIG locker! (Welded up spider gears)

However the H165 has the option of LSD... via Nismo
if you can find a bluebird Station wagon or a sedan with H165 with a 4 wheel discs they will transfer over too!

if it was an pre 1974 1200 ute which had the H145 I'd say keep the BW diff however.... I'm starting to see that the H165 has it's advantages... the fact that you don't have to remove the whole assembly to ajust lash/gear mesh! for one!

also here in australia the BW68 also came in the KE30 corolla... unlike the 120Y BW diff
which has 3.889 ratio the KE30 diff had
3.889 4.10 and 4.30...

but getting gearsets/parts to the UK might be a problem!!

on my March '77 120Y farm hack known as "The Defect" I had "DFECTIV" on the front and "FLA-ASH" on the back...

the silver sunny is still on the drawing board...

the plates off "The Defect" are going onto it's replacement my July '75 120Y "The Iron Maiden"

named not after my favorite havy metal band but because it is a glorified coffin!!

that is a Borg Warner model 68 diff which originally fitted to Australian made 120Y (B210) sedand between June '76 and (I think) may- april '78.... I have one in a March '77 120Y sedan

probably not the best pic though

the other diff looks to ba a Borg Warner model 78

A BW diff as an Original Equipment fitting on a 1200 ute?

interesting!

with the advent of my latest project - a Square Light Sunny, I am looking for an A14/A15 in the Perth area, however: they seem to be like hens teeth... the speedway guys use A12's, so there should still be heaps of 'em around!?

I know where I can get a low mileage A15(<60,000 Kms) for $770, but I'd prefer something cheaper...

just a little update on the Yellow, rusted-out pile of sh!t '81 sunny of mine.... it is being relagated to "PARTS" status as you can't even put it on chassis stands... too much rust!

the other main reasons:

1. the clutch is stuffed...

2. I have lined up another square light Sunny!!.... a metallic silver 1980-'81 model

it is A12 powered... but I can't remember if it is a manual or auto....

but a LOT less rust!

if it is an auto... it's not all bad... I'll disconnect the kickdown switch on the pedal box and hook the wires to a toggle switch on the dashboard!

"sports mode auto!"
