At the mo, I'm getting about 10km/litre on my carb but it needs help - missing linkages, bad float (it cracked numerous times), secondary main jet plug bolt thing has worn threads, cant set my idling - revs are way to high, so I want to either do a service exchange (get the same but better condition carb for mine & some cash ontop) or another carb altogether.

Would it be wise to get a weber (saw the dgv 32/36 should be best) or stick with the hitachi? What would fuel consumption be like with the weber?

My engine is fully stock - thinking of changin ignition to electric if cash allows (i was quoted US60 for a 2nd hand electric dizzy that i will have to fit myself - & I dont have a dwell meter)

Really appreciate your feed back...

Oh, the body work on his 120y is in the same state, if not worse than mine.

I'm planning on fixing it up as good as cash will allow, then when I leave zim in about 6 months, I'll sell it off and hopefully by another in South Africa or Australia - which ever we make it into!

Well, I had a word with my cousin and he will only allow me to swap parts if I can guarantee a sale of about US2000 of his 120y after Ive done what i want to it.

Yea... I think I'll just let it rot on his farm and make a plan to get my parts else where!

Anyway, I've got a couple of guys looking around for a nissan champ dash with a tacho for me, as well as the sway bar (guys this side call it the stabiliser bar?) Im also making a plan to do a "service replacment" for my carb - Linkages are worn, float is cracked and the spring inside the float needle is rusted so not giving good tension (hence all the flooding), not to mention choke linkage missing & jets rattling about (having being held in place by a jammed up piece of paper) and not allowing my engine to idle - only at really high revs...

I had a near miss this week - i was paying attention to tire skid marks of an 18 wheeler in the outer lane at the robots infront of me and hadnt realised cars directly infront of me hadnt started moving despite the green light-so I slammed down on the break pedal - my tires started squealing, but the body held together quite well . I almost hit the back of the C-class infront of me! I had to ease off braking so my steering would respond and I landed up parrallel (on the right hand side) with the car infront of the merc! Good thing my wife wasnt with me!

Guys want to charge me from US60 to US200 for a replacement carb......How do I tell if its in good nick or not? Should I just try to find a weber dgv 32/36 instead of getting the same hitachi carb as i have?

Ok, I have a cousin with a 120y that has a messed up gearbox (cant stay in gear unless you keep it in which takes a toll on your arm) so its up on blocks.
He also has an old diesel merc with a blown head gasket which I think he would prefer to get up and running as compared to the 120y... so I want to use parts off his 120y for my 1200.

My dash is messed up (take a look at my pics) and thought I would swap them out - would that work?

I also want to swap the carbs (mine is in a state!), sway bars, fuel tank filler-neck pipes
(mines cracked near the top end-making the cab smell of fuel everytime i turn a corner!) and if he has a center consol, i'l grab that out too!

Will all of these swaps work?

Well, I just had a think about it... If i were to get a body - basically a car without engine and maybe missing a few other odds and ends for a reasonable price, I may be willing to do this...

But I'm planning on moving to SA early next year (Cape Town specifically) and I think it would be a waste to undertake an entire project right now...

So I'll probably fix this up as best I can and sell it just before I leave and hopefully buy another that will be in better condition when i'm in SA.

My wife isnt too fond of old cars, so I may have to buy a modern car as a daily driver and get a 1200 as a hobby car...

Thanks for your input guys.

Does anyone have any tips for what to look for when buying a new/another body? Any estimates on a cost?

By the way, if anyone knows of a body in good nick in Zimbabwe - preferably harare, let me know!

A mate suggested that it might be better for me to get another body as mine does seem quite rusted up...

What do you guys think - from my pics?

I'm also having a few issues with doors - I have to slam them to close properly. I'v a 3week old son who gets such a shock when i close the doors, it makes my heart sore!

i was quoted between US$400 & US$700 to repair the visible rust damage and a full respray with 2k paint. I dont know if its worth it... as it stands, I still have to replace my carb!

Ok, Pics posted in the pre-rustoration section under my member...

Ive been quoted between US$400 and US$900 for panel beating and a full respray.

What's your take on metallic as compared to 2K? I wanted to change it to an electric blue, similar to the color the nissan hardbody's come in.

I was thinking along a similar vein as you quinn...

I didnt just want to light up the thing, I wanted it to be noticed as different. I know a half-watt resistor or somthing simillar would have to be put in to protect the LED's from blowing, but whether or not this will simulate the resistance provided by the bulbs, Im not sure.

If or when i do it, I'll put some pics up and maybe something in the wiki...

Hey guys,

Any one tried to make LED panels to fit behind the original taillights?

How would it affect the indicator relay or any of the other electrics for that matter?

Anyone got pics of ones they've done?

Thanks,
Ethan
