Finally made some progress on the car. I got all of the suspension painted, then went ahead and got the engine bay painted. The funny part is that during the painting process I kept laying down the basecoat and it just didn't seem to look as good as I wanted. After a couple coats I was satisfied, but the color just wasn't right. After I rolled the car out into the light, I was shocked at how well it looked. Here are some pictures
not sure about earlier 60 series boxes, but the 71 series boxes have problems with the roll pin dropping out on the shift forks which then causes the shifter to jamb. Pull it out and see what's wrong. SOrry mate!
We have a forklift at the shop I work at and it has a motor that looks similar to the A15, but is not. The motor we have is a J15. You will find a machined stamp pad on the passenger side of the block with the engine code followed by the serial number. If I remember, the J15 was what Nissan used for a majority of industrial applications.
On my '72 Coupe, it came with an Astrosonix AM radio. Was going to use the trim like the blanking plate was used by DD, but now considering against doing so if there is some form of sacrilege associated. The radio is stuffed, but is there somebody out there who thinks cutting that part up to install a modern head unit would be an unpardonable sin?
I went in yesterday and got the engine bay and under car painted in POR-15 rust encapsulating paint to keep the car from having a future rust problem. I get to scuff the engine bay and finally lay color down tomorrow!!!! Pics to come for sure!
I might have to take some time from the project to get my Datsun 720 back on the road again. I put a KA24E in it about a year ago and the valves never have seated right and I think I dropped a valve this afternoon. No smoke, no loss in oil pressure and no scuffing in the cylinder walls, but a definite loss of compression in one of the cylinders.
I love how your electrics are all done up. Real class act and definitely a route to go. I went with the stock 1200 harness to run the accessories and ran the engine harness separate.
The only part I'm not crazy about is the air intake from the throttle plate to the mass air flow sensor. Looks kind of like a compromise. I'm in almost the same boat on mine, but I took the Battery and put it in the boot and have the air flow meter in the passenger fenderwell with a really short tube. Should make it much more responsive and keeps the tube from having to cross over the front. I'm not telling you to do things, especially since you really have no where else to put the battery and I'm sure there are a lot of reasons.
Great work on the ute! I'm following your thread carefully!
