I would cut off and grind a high tensile bolt, probably around a 5/8". First cut the bolt to the length of the depth of the plug square, then grind a square on the bolt to make it a tight fit (so you have to hammer it in) then put a socket to suit the bolt head on and long bar and pull hard !

I think the whining sound you describe is more likely to be the diff.

It also might be worth checking the anti dieseling valve on the carby if it has one. If the power is cut to this intermitantly it could cause the problem. Had a similar problem with my a12. Not sure if the A15 has an anti dieseling valve.

I remove mine by using about 6 wooden clothes pegs (Pulled apart). Insert the tapered end of the peg in behind the rubber (from the inside of the car)and lever rubber away from the frame and slide the peg in behind the frame. I found if you put one about every 2 inches the screen will slowly pop out as you work your way round.
