Its an A14 motor running a 32/36 and elec ignition.
#1 and #2 are running rich and #3 and 4 are running lean...
I know the fuelings not right in general but you would think this would affect it across the board.. very wierd.

<EDIT> Also, is having the distributor 180 degress out really bad? It's all timed correctly (#1 TDC, blah blah) and the firing orders correct, the only thing is the plug leads are 180 out on the dizzy.

Sorry but that's not correct. Yes when a filter gets more dirty it will become more restrictive, but the smaller the filter the more restriction before you even start. The same goes for any filter be it intake, crankcase breather, etc... People don't run bigger filters so that they don't have to clean them as often. They run bigger filters so that there is less restriction.

+1. Old school rule of thumb used to be that the air filter lid shouldn't be closer to the mouth of the carb than the bore of the carb. ie: if you have a 40mm Weber, the carb lib should be at *minimum* 40mm away from the mouth of the carb. It's all to do with pressure drops and airflow restriction. Short story: bigger is better when it comes to filtration.

I can imagine the maintenance required to keep a filter that small from blocking up too quickly ..and when it starts to clog up the airflow rate would drop dramatically. Which is why I went with the biggest damn filter I could find! :P

I love this stuff :) Do you know if they've done any other practical tests with it other than generate electricity? ..like say connecting it to some wheels ;) :P

Yep like that one. Did we ever get any of the Pulsars with A-series here? Just wondering if I could hunt at the wreckers...

I agree with ericsB210, this happened to me when I was starting up my new engine, same Weber. It ran beautiful until it drained the float bowl. It turned out the FPR was faulty and not letting enough fuel through. Once you've started it up and it dies, rip the carb top off and see if there's any fuel left.

I think your main problem is still there; fixing the vac leak probably fixed a different problem created by removing the emission gear.

Re idle: You should screw your idle screw all the way in (not too hard or you'll damage it) and then unscrew it 1.5-2 turns; that should get you started. Once it's warmed up screw the idle screw in till it starts to run a little rough (too lean) then unscrew it till it starts to run rough (too rich). In between those two points will be somewhere close to right. Grab a vac gauge if you want to set it up a little better.
