i have done the l20b conversion although not completely finished yet (painted it wen eng out). it will fit hight wise with sidies or custom inj. if you dont mod the crossmember. i cut approx 25mm out of it and welded new plate on top this will give more clearance to work with, used bluebird eng mounts on custom brackets and choped and welded crossmember. Sump needed no mods, this is from a bluebird series one. also used bluebird trx 5 spd, this will fit in manual trans tunnel with trans lugs groung off from tunnel, used bluey clutch master cyl for clutch conversion, custom gearbox mount, easy as to do, used nolothane bushes to stiffen it up, standard exh manifold and bluey exhaust will clear fire wall, dunno about extactors havnt found any info on that. So far i havnt come accross anything that you couldnt do at home without basic skills and a mig/ block an tackle, maybe a third hand. Anyway suk it an c, have fun

well heres my thoughts on the situation. i first off went turbo a12 in my 1200 sedan but for the price of a turbo rebuild an carbon seal i have basically completed my l20b conversion (turbo seals were gone). i picked up the car (series one bluey wagon) for fifty bux with slipping clutch and no rego. I did all the mounts etc myself using works welder so no cost there. new clutch, radiator recore and shortning, tailshaft and exhuast is all that i need to fork out for. i attacked this conversion differently than what ive read here as i wanted the engine to sit as low as possible to fit downdrough webber and hat for future turbo conversion (not for a while). to achieve this i modded the crosmember, cut 25mm out of the centre and rewelded it giving me extra sump clearance. aslo had to make spacers to drop swaybar down to clear oil pump. trans tunnel needed no mods just ground off old mounts, gearstick sits back approc 100mm. used bluey clutch slave and rad as well, cut complete rad support out for clearance, used l16 water pump and pulley to gain extra front clearance due to l20b having that hydrulic coupling. this setupwill provide plenty off fun with huge scope for further mods. i have also driven a a15 in rally car with twin carbys and monster cam etc and to be honest it felt slow (supposedly 55rwkw). tuorque is great thats why i went the extra capacity, just some food for thought.

so stanza struts would be ok with lowered springs, wouldnt bottom the struts out or do they need modding? do they bolt in to strut tower? Im guessing the bluey ones would be too tall as well then!

i have just about finished off the l20b conversion and seeing as i have a bluebird series one wagon for bits i was going to try and put the struts and brakes into my 1200 4 dr. first thing i did was measure the top hat bolt pattern distanse (3 bolts to strut tower) and i noticed they are diff, bluey one is further spaced and bigger. then i thought wat about swapping the hats from the 1200 but the coil spring diameter is larger on the bluey. does anyone no for sure if this swap is possible and if so what do you have to do in regards to the above. i dont want to have to drill new holes in the strut tower. or should i buy some stanza stuts, these would line up with the strut tower holes wouldnt they? thanks alot guys im really stuck on this one!!!

i am in the middle of putting an l20b into my 1200 sedan with trx 5 speed. My question to you guys who have done it is, what extractors clear and from wat car are they originally from or do i have to make custom ones up. i was hoping that some from a smaller l series car like 1600 or stanza may fit. Are all ports the same between l series family? thanks

thanks for the interest guys, like i said im more than happy for u to come and look at it this weekend on sat or sunday arvo. id also consider a swap for some decent rims and tires to fit a 1200 sedan thats lowered a lot, so low profiles. 14 by 60 is way too big! i will take best offer within next two weeks!
