okay guys, i know this has been covered much in the past but this will be different. this has details and a plan(of sorts), not just will it work blah blah blah.

So the plan is, swap the gutless and scary Auto tranny out of my 1200 coupe and replace it with one from a 74 120y.

Was talking to a mate whos a bit of a dato know it all and he seems to have the attitude of "what could possible go wrong"

So we have:
My stock auto coupe
"74 120y, manual, blown head but with everything there.
engine crane
elbow grease.

The plan:
1 - Roll the 120y over to get all the running gear out. the car is a parts car and a bomb so dont worry
2 - get a new clutch, and the flywheel balanced/resurfaced
3 - get back to the work site
4 - pull my engine out
5 - change gearbox and align everything while its out of the car
6 - put engine and gearbox back in the coupe.
7 - hock up the clutch
8 - and away we go!

does that sound about right? anything major we should look out for? or do something differently?

then after this its extractors and a sidey!

cheers guys
J

hey guys. its been a while now buut i did it!

the 120y was sold off to make room for a 1200 coupe. i'll throw some photo's up.

i used 2 inch blocks on the rear and just cut springs up front. I have sourced a pair of rear 200b springs for the front but just havent had time to throw them in.

it looks heaps better in person then in the photo's. It is a bit ruffer so im looking into that.

If i choose the "perfect" golf mk1 inserts, do i need to use coil overs or will they fit into cut struts?

how/where do you cut the struts?

If i were to put the 200b springs in now, cut them to the right hight for the uncut struts, then, in a few weeks change the inserts and cut the struts will the springs be the right size? Or should i just go it all in a few weeks and deal wit the bumpy ride which is what i am leading towards.

found this on ebay us

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DATSUN-120 ... em484061c315#ht_500wt_909

I was just under the impression that the rear taillight pannel was painted black on gx'es. I was wrong.

I still might paint mine black sometime in the next few weeks, just cos i like the look and contrast and totally pov to fork out for the real pannels.

I might be interested in a few bits.

where in tassie are you located? im in hobart. Need bits for a manual conversion, and possibly center console/ other dash bit to have a play around with head units and stuff.
