+1 for what D said except the sucking balls bit. Also depends on what level of rust you have. On my ute, I had bits flacking off so I cut and welded new sections. In other areas I had surface rust with pitting which I kept applying rust remover and scrub till it all comes out. .

good advice to go lightly on the solder dundee. I did the same on my old A14 and its fairly simple to do. I only drilled one small hole, let it sit in the sun for a day or two then lightly soldered.
