the best box as far as i know is the mr30 skyline stumpy 5spd.... reason is that u dont need to move the handbrake as with the original ca 5spd.... and in a ute theres no room to move it back.....

some say it fits in the tunnel... some say it doesnt... putting in a bigger tunnel will allow easier access to starter motor etc for future service/maintainance.....

but if you want to avoid that i'd just get the desired gearbox and see for urself if it'll fit....

no the prelude seats dont fit straight in.... they are a good sporty seat with nice support and are comfortable....

the prelude rails are longer and also wider than the standard 1200 rails.... you can use one side (trans tunnel side) of the original mounting points but have to redrill the other side.... you have to bend the mounting brackets on the seat rails to a 90 degree angle (they are roughly on a 45 to begin with) and either use spacers to fit or do as i did and cut the L brackets off and re weld them in the right spot....

another method would be to try and adapt the complete standard 1200 seat rails to the prelude seat.... but being a wider seat it would be tricky to fix them to it....

theres a bit involved but its not really that hard and you end up with a nice pair of seats....

hey sammy i think that if u are mechanically minded and really want to do the CA conversion i'd say go for it...

Be prepared to spend lots of money and time and have many headaches and you need a lot of patience.....

If you are ready for all that and believe in yourself you'll get it done.... It'll all be worth it in the end....

Besides if you ever get stuck which you will you'll find 99.9% of your answers here on this site....

good luck with your ute.. enjoy it :)

just wondering if anybody has used a 120y auto tunnel in their 1200 when doing a CA18 (or similar) conversion?

i know that when there is a will there is a way to make anything fit and work.... but was just wondering if the 120y auto tunnel is the next best choice if a 1200 auto cannot be located...

thanks
