The force is applied in 6 directions, 3 components of linear force and 3 moments. Think of it this way, vibration and g forces shake and twist it every way imaginable. Long term average force is just the downward pull of gravity since most motors are not running all the time.

ITB's + turbo is doable but it's a lot harder to tune and probably not worth the hassle for the gain when you can just wind the boost up 25kPa more....

Other than bigger pistons in the front calipers your other option is smaller pistons in the rear.
Are they rear drums or rear discs? My old Astra had worn rear discs which had a tendency to grab and lock. All fixed with new rotors and correct adjustment of the handbrake. Drums can grab if the hinge points aren't right, I've never had a problem like that with them though so I'd just check it's all assembled correctly.
Dunno if that helps. Good luck!

I was thinking about the schematic in this thread on the way to work. The EFI filter is in the wrong spot, they go after the fuel filter in every stock setup I've seen and for a good reason. With the filter before the pump there's nothing to stop wear debris from the pump clogging the injectors, the pump its self has bigger passages in it to deal with foreign matter that the injectors do.
My set up is very similar, lift pump, surge tank, high pressure pump, filter, rail then fuel return. The surge does not need to be big for normal use. I have about 400mL at the moment and no issues.

Go see a metal spinner about getting a steel cone made, they'd have to have a pretty big machine for a decent wall thickness but they can make almost any axis-symmetric shape with minimal tooling.
You might also find an expired propane bottle with roughly the right size? They have heavy wall pressed steel ends.
