Guys,
I finally have my Ute back with an A15 with Twin Su's and a 30/70 cam. It runs brillantly except for an annoying problem at around 100-110km/hr. At this speed when you hold the accelerator constant, about every 10 seconds or so you can feel a slight 'miss' and the car holds back. Sort of like driving into a head wind.
I was thinking that maybe the fuel pump may be struggling to keep up?? It is the stock 1200 one. Should I change over to something a little bigger (180B or Bluebird??), considering that I am running an A15 with Twin Su's??? Any ideas.
regards,
Daz

It is the whole lot. They are hard to get. I found it in a country Victorian wrecker. I left it with the old man in Shepparton but I am going there this week so if you are interested I can snap a few photos and e-mail you.

Guys,
I will take back what I said about the 1200 and 120Y Sway bars being the same. They are different with the centre part of the 120Y bar having a defined step down or step up in the centre of the bar. The 1200 one is essentaily in the same plain. However the bolt up points to the chassis are the same and after fitting the correct bushes it went in no worries at all.
I fitted the 120Y bar today and managed to get about 5mm clearance in front of the sump with the centre section stepped down. Keep in mind I have an A15 (not sure how it would go with an A12??, are the oil sumps the same dimensions??).
I tried it the other way (centre section up and although it did fit it was flush up against the oil sump and just underneath the fanbelt. This obviously wouldn't work if you went over a bump.
I went out for a crusie and did some hard cornering and I can tell you that it does make a difference. Much better handling, I was amazed. I would not have thought that a 4mm diameter increase would have made such a difference.
It took less then an hour messing around and is a very cheap upgrade. Highly recommended if you still have the old 1200 16mm bar.
cheers,
Daz

It fits no worries at all. In some models of dato (not sure which), it does hit the oil sump but this is nothing that a hammer can't fix with a bit of gental persuasion. I took the 1200 one out and lined it up with the 120Y and apart from being larger in diameter it is excatly the same. My only problem was that I didn't have the brackets and bushes for it so I had to put the 1200 one back in for the time being until I get the rest. I paid $20 for the 120Y bar from a local wrecker.
cheers,

I would reckon that most us on this website in Australia would be after a 5 speed gear box at some stage. I don't give a f*ck where I get it from, I just want one. So for $600+ shipping count me in.

I am using a Stanza disk brake set up on the front. Standard drums on the back. If I go the 180B cylinder I take it I will need to get the plumbing (lines) from the 180B as well.

Guys,
I have a 1971 dato ute, so being an"older model" it has the single brake master cylinder as standard. I have had the front strut / disk brake conversion done and an A15 put in, but the the single brake master cylinder has been reconnected.
It appears the popular change over is the 180B dual cylinder. If it is cheap and easy why not. Forgetting about boosters, how much of a difference does this actually make to stopping power over the single? Do I need to bother at all?? I suppose being a ute there is less weigt to stop so it might not be as important as in a sedan?
cheers,
daz

5 Speed Gear Box Question |

Guys,
I am sourcing a 5 speed gear box from the US (210 model), as they are to hard to get here. I have had several replies but I think they are offering up the rally type gear boxes (dogleg), which has reverse at the top left. I am after the standard which places reverse in the bottom right.
I have read the info in the Tech section about the 56, 60 and 63 series. It is a little incomplete but it seems me that:
56 Series (5 speed is avaiable in both dogleg and standard)
60 Series (Dogleg yes, but did these come out with standard 5 speed??)
63 Series (Dogleg only????)
Does anybody out there have a complete list of all models and which has what or can fill in the gaps??
cheers,
Daz
