Thanks for that.
Ok, I have established I have an H165
If I want to get something like 3.7 ratios
Does anyone know which sort of vehicle they would be found in ?
Are they uncommon ?
I have an A15, carb, extractors and 5 speed. Would 3.7 be suitable for normal road use ?

Your opinions would be great

Cheers

Probably been asked a thousand times before...
Can anyone tell me if I can swap the centre out of my ute diff (4.11 I believe) with a sedan diff ?
If so what ratios would be available ? Will axles fit?

Thanks for any advice

I had a fairly stock Z24 in my 4WD 720 Ute.
It was a great motor, unstoppable !!
Put many an "Unbreakable Hilux" to shame and many more Cruisers for that matter !
Good luck and Enjoy

G'day Old Fart
Mate, I have been having exactly the same issues with my damn Tacho..
No one seems to be able to tell me what to do with the loop behind the tacho.
Its ok to say " its just a loop" but some sort of voltage must be applied to it so that the tacho can read the "pulse".
That said, OK so I attach it to the Neg side of the coil... cool...
Where does the other end go ???
I tried the black wire with white trace... did nothing....
I tried earth... did nothing....
I tried taking it back to the Pos side of coil... did nothing....
I can't put it to the Dist ( as has been suggested ) as I have electronic ignition...

Now my head lights don't work ( must admit, they were dicky to start with )
And it won't start..... I didn't smell anything out of the ordinary tho
Mine is in an 81 ute and I don't believe the wiring harness supports it as standard.
As it is unlicensed, it will be a few weeks before I can get it to an auto elec to find out whats going on. If you are still having probs then, I will give you my solution.
In the meantime, if you find out with yours, can you let me know...
Very frustrating huh...

Cheers

Thanks Tommo,
Unfortunately mine is an 81 ute and doesn't appear to have anything in the loom...
I guessed the pulse must come from the coil to one end of the wire, but where does the other end connect to ?

Cheers

But its a looped wire...
If I connect it to both sides of the coil, wont it short the coil ?

Just went and checked my car.....
I don't have hooks on the tailgate either....
Would it be possible to have eyelets and cord on the sides and fastners at the rear ?
I still have the three window protectors on mine. Does the sailtrack interfere with these?

Thanks for your help

Yep, I would be interested for sure.
As I still have the hooks on my tray, can you make one with eyelets and elastic cord like an original. I can give you spacings for the eyelet placement if required.
