Hi Andy, If the oil is gearbox with its destinctive smell you may not have the front seal fitted correctly. They had to be fitted facing backwards . otherwise maybe the rear main is leaking. Another tip for the rear gearbox seal is to fit 2 rear seals just push the first one in a little further then fit the second.

The steering wheel i used for my Sunny coupe was from a R30 Skyline which has the centre offset downwards. I swapped the original B310 boss kit over to that wheel. Just an idea.

Some of the windscreens you can purchase are in fact thinner than the original units supplied from the factory. This can make them a little more difficult to fit but another unexpected thing i have noticed is the engine and outside noise is more apparent in the cabin. I suppose it comes back to the old adage you get what you pay for. Sikaflex should not be used as a sealer if required as it is a hardening sealant that is used for late model flush fit glass. A mastic sealant stays flexible and allows flex.

The engine is a genuine 1400 gx purchased from A1 imports around the early to mid 80"s. All unnessary polution gear was removed and blocked for simplicity. This engine has been rebuilt twice after this time the last being around 2 years ago . The bore was still in good order so no boring required. The cam was a Ivan Tighe grind but not too sure of timing as i find the specs quite confusing but i rang Ivan and told him of the engine and carbys etc and this was his reccomendation. Sounds good and went very well for its state of tune. The carbys were tuned and had SU needles fitted by Park Road garage of Salisbury, A carb specialist in Brisbane. The timing chain was also replaced at the rebuild and the head was overhauled by Engine engineering of Rocklea. Rings and bearing were of course replaced at this time. So a good basically original GX Engine is what you have.

Hi, This is a car i have spent a lot of time on over the last25 years and it looks the best it ever has. It was my girlfriends dads car who fitted the GX engine after i fitted mine when they were readily available in the 80"s. Originally Spraycrest Green, a mate of mine brought it from the girlfriends dad and kept it for many years before selling to his brother in law and then getting it back for a few more years. It has been painted group A Commodore Permanent red before its last repaint in the Orange colour. A great car with many happy memories attached. Good luck and keep up the great work.. I was there when it was taken to the transporter to be sent to you..

I recently rebuilt my a15 engine and thought a similar problem was occuring . There is not a large flow of oil to the top end of the engine as i expected but merely enough to lube things up. I ran the engine for a while and i was surprised how long it took to cover the rocker gear. I hope this helps.
