I remember visiting Reg Cook in New Zealand on his Farm south of Auckland to buy some works Nissan bits from him and he had a 1298 cc A series he used for hill climbs and as he walked past it he have it a playful kick and said good engine that one 195 HP on the engine Dynometer shows what is possible with a good A series obviously it had all the titanium rods etc but was not from memory an AY head

The original goldish color was actually not zinc plating but cadmium used as a sacrificial protective coating, Cadmium plating has gone the way of the Dodo due to environmental Nazi's and the modern replacement is Nickel plating which when polished resembles chrome and has a satin silver finish if unpolished that is what all modern bolts and nuts are done in.

Increased use of Nickel plating is probably why Clive Palmer wants to reopen his Townsville facility as an aside because increased use of nickel is becoming more common, You can even do nickel plating at home kits are available for about Au $160.00

Logic tells me that a vacuum advance unit should work the other way and actually retard timing when it sees positive boost pressure rather than vacuum therefore aiding in stopping detonation under boost whilst still giving more advance and better power on light throttle load as it was designed to do Z 18 turbos did something similar with their distributors

Also possibly a twin carb setup from a Subaru EA series engine could be from an EA63, an EA 71 or an EA 81 twin carb engine also

SSS Kiwi has the right idea in this thread Bike pistons when found will be lighter stronger and allow much higher revs with less load than most car sourced pistons.

I have used Honda XR500 Pistons in a L series 2.3 litre stroker rally engine and being so light they allowed that engine to rev about a 1000 RPM more than normal L series 2400's as people refer to them as, Most were not actually 2400cc more like 2290cc,Therefore check either Wossner or Wiseco catalogs for diameters but I do not believe they give crown heights in most cases but do give pin sizes so some research could be worthwhile

Better get the feeler gauges out not wise to trust the eyes especially when they are full of dust seeing as you poor bastards haven't seen much rain of late up there.

Better yet find a dwell meter and set them that way really cheap to buy these days as so few cars use points now search ebay good ones are a bargain second hand and most were made before China flooded us with cheap and nasty rubbish

Easy to make and even the special tool to put the correct bend into a straight piece of rod is readily available form a hobby shop that caters to the model aircraft industry.

The tool in question makes a bend at 90 degrees and then at the same time puts another bend in that follows the original straight line of the rod also at 90 degrees so you effectively have a step at right angles in the rod that locates and rotates as needed when fitted into a pivot hole exactly like used on many carburettor linkages and heater control rods,When I bought mine about 10 yrs ago it was about $12.00 Aus every toolbox should have one
