Hi Clay,

I have a CA18DET that needs a re-build. Was re-built but tuning was too rich and it didn't run in properly. Now 130 psi across all cylinders. Has forged pistons, Has turbo, just no loom or injectors. In Brisi.
email me if you want more info jusarmstrong@hotmail.com
cheers, justin

I have a sad story. I got my engine rebuilt with forged pistons and chrome-moly rings and for some reason it ran out of oil during the run-in and now has a compression ratio of 130 across all cylinders.

I have reciepts for all the work.

I can sell as a whole engine or as bits, but a condition of sale is that someone must remove it from the shed.

The items that are missing include the flywheel, the injectors and coil packs.

The turbo is included however.

If you are handy you should be able to salvage the pistons, I doubt if they are damaged at $800 bucks new the set. They are 40 thou oversize.

I'm looking for around 300 bucks for the whole engine or various prices for individual parts. ie alternator, starter motor, block, head, turbo, manifolds etc.

Everything is negotiable as my priority is to remove the engine from its location. I don't have the energy or time or money to take it to a rebuilder or do it myself..

PM me or send a msg to 0400285727.

Location is BRISBANE.
Cheers Justin

Impressive! can't be that hard then. I will need a new manifold gasket set and probably some new rubber o-rings for each injector...
cheers

Thanks guys.
The car also seems particularly smelly with fuel vapour which seems to be in keeping with the theory of leaking injectors. I suppose potentially I could also be using more fuel because of this?
Would leaky injectors show up in a fuel pressure test??? I think a small leak may not?
Getting the injectors out can be tricky - I guess I will have to remove the entire inlet manifold...
Cheers

I have an old ish Ca18det and some of the plugs have had issues with corrosion. I have had these fixed.

What is strange is that when my car starts cold, there is a stench of fuel - it runs way too rich. The idle is terrible.

Then when it reaches operating temperature, the idle is fine and the mixtures are fine. You can hear the revs change suddenly.

Would it be the water temp sensor? I just had it replaced and rewired. pulling it out when the engine is on seems to make no difference!
Any thoughts? Maybe the wires (blue and blue/brown) have been wired wrong?

Hi there, I have 200B struts. They are great as they have an angle which gives more negative camber. Handling is fantastic. Get good pads for the brakes, the TRW (lucas) are the best.
I used standard bluebird rims, worked fine. I've also used 13x6.5 jelly beans (very snug over brakes). Right now I'm using front wheel drive offset simmons rims with a spacer.
If you have 14x8 or something like that you may have to use a clip on wheel arch flare or just get the guards rolled out.
Cheers,

Justn

Thanks guys,

I forgot to check the wiki, there's lots of info in there! The usual message search didn't pick anything up.

My steering box has run out of adjustment, and it's just too wobbly on the highway.
How do I remove the thing without removing the engine (CA18)? is it better to just reco it or get a second hand one from a sunny (what else fits?)
Any advice would be great.

Yes, what temperature are people running with CA18DETs?

Thanks everyone,
that was a very interesting read. I never had any idea an engine could be over cooled, and damage the possible result.

I always thought a big radiator was better, but it's obviously more complicated. It seems better to use the standard radiator and to stick on some excellent thermo fans so that the temperature never gets too low and when it gets hot, the fans take away the extra heat.

Also interesting that the temperature differential between the rad and the engine should not be more than 5 degrees or so..

Ultimately I need to find out:

if my thermostat is now broken or mismatched to my larger radiator (The radiator might take the temp below it's operating temperature?)

what the actual temperature is (if too low or not)

What the optimal temperature is for the CA18 (I heard it was 90 deg?)

The radiator is from a nissan R32 btw.
