After the machining is done the engine builder charges about $500 for assembly and with that $500 you get warranty and pice off mind

i think your missing the point. yes there are plenty of cheep modern engines available that are light with good power and bolt in fitting kits BUT if you want a period engine for a low cost that has a #OOPS#load more power than an a series the l series wins.
i can't tell you how many people wet there pants when i pop the bonnet and they see the humble l18e in there, even people with big power datos.

I put one on my sisters ute 1.5 years ago and still works fine. If your coil needs a resistor then you will obviously need it but no condenser.
Also buy it from the USA it is much cheaper.

when i did my l18 1200 i sat the engine on the x member made my mounts then massaged the sump carefully and then massaged the x member (with a sledge hammer) . it may sound ruff but a small amount ether way made a big difference and you wouldn't know that it was done.
