This is something that is often overlooked - or moreso something that is acknowledged but not paid attention to.

Power to weight, torque to weight, brake to weight, and tyre to weight are some of the most important performance factors.

I'm currently building a Hilux, alongside my 120Y, but once I sell one or the other I'll be going a 'less is more' project.

Removing 10% weight improves acceleration more than adding 10% power. Also, remnoving 10% weight also improves everything else like economy, braking, handling, tyre wear, etc.

That's *relatively* normal for oil that hasn't been changed in a few years. That's why the plug is magnetic, to draw the metal parts out of the oil & stop them going through the gears again.

As long as there are no big chunks then it will be fine, just put new oil in it. Maybe shift more gently in future, just to be safe :)

this is a #OOPS# idea

decreases strength under brakes
decreases strength under acceleration (if on driven axle)
all weight removed from centre so has minimal impact
reduces heatsink effect
will do #OOPS#-all for performance

all rust needs to be removed
all bare metal needs to be primed or rust-protected

Hi mate

Good luck with sale. How much power did your ute have when it ran the 10.8 @ 124? any idea on weight?

Were they even available vinyl? Normally commercial vehicles are vinyl and passenger vehicles are carpet.

Here's an example, from my bluebird.

I found a few spots of what most people would call "surface rust", but when I sanded them back they started getting bigger, not smaller!

I quickly figured out the problem, so cut out the piece entirely. May not look at that bad on the painted side...

But on the other side...!

The ONLY way to fix this is to cut out the metal and replace it:

Agree wholeheartedly. ALL rust should be COMPLETELY cut out.

99.9% of people also misunderstand "surface rust'. Surface rust is exactly that... a little bit of rust colour on the outside of a piece of bare metal, that you can easily sand/blast/etc off the metal. A rust bubble under paint is NOT surface rust. It is normally the worst kind of rust, being rust that starts from behind the panel, rusts through the metal, and then starts to come out the other side & through your paint. This type of rust needs to be COMPLETELY cut out.

dare i say it again?

great engine as-is. i turbo'd mine and it went like a train.

most/all bike transmissions will need to have the gears back-cut, clutch upgraded, and depending on your tastes have the back-torque-limiter removed.
