Hey kids

My 120Y is one of the later models so it came with the larger diff. It held up fine at 250rwhp but as I've just revised a few things I'm expecting a little over 300rwhp so figured it was time to look at an upgrade!

After an initial tip-off and lots of research, I established that a H190 (RWD 720 ute) was the way to go. Be aware there is also a C200 diff available in the later RWD 720s but this is NOT the one you want as it is much too wide.

While the H190 also isn't the ideal diff in my opinion (particularly as LSDs are basically unavailable), it's a nice blend of strength vs weight/size, it's almost the perfect width and it drops straight in. Yep, you heard that right kids! :) Obviously there are mods needed to the tailshaft, brake lines, etc but the expensive/annoying part is normally getting a housing shortened and mounts changed over.

It is only a small amount wider than the standard diff; with brakes removed it's 1230mm from flange to flange and you can see here (a) the diff in place with NO modifications and (b) the diffs lined up next to each other. I can't remember the exact difference but it's bugger-all, something like about 25mm per sie and you have heaps of room to work with under 120Y guards. If you are concerned about the increased track, a FWD-style offset would bring it back to just about standard width.

The 720 utes run 6-stud axles & drums, and you can either run stock 720 rims (or other 6-stud rims) or look at changing the stud pattern. Most people would just redrill the drums & axles but personally I'd like a better solution than that, and am looking at adapting 910 axles and brakes (either discs or drums, depends what I find on short notice).

Yeah if you work off $250/wheel you're pretty close.

Anyone got an idea on F/R distribution? Looking at getting a trailer made but the distribution impacts axle location somewhat.

Also I can find the width of the 1000 but not the track.

This sounds a hundred times better, I hope we get this in QLD.

The current system is bullshit, if you have a car that you leave in the garage 364 days a year, and want to drive it to work on ONE sunny day, you can't... yet if you go to a club event every single day of the year that's OK.

From your posts I've had a little trouble making sense of the accident.

Can you draw us a diagram?

I work in insurance and can give you my 'unofficial' opinion on it.
