Also try looking around on Tamiya they stock a few of the 1200 utes i think. but surf around the Japanese rc shops and you will come across quite a few. i did all the research trying to find one of these myself a few years back and you have to do your "homework" to find them!! Also it depends how much you really want one they dont come cheap either especially if you are going to do mods to them. (as in belt driven chassis as such. cheers

Yeh cheers guys.
Kiri1 i am using (i think around about) a 2-3 grinder with a "heavy duty twisted wire cup" as they call them they are pretty much what you would use on a drill but a lot more heavy and rough. I tried using the drill technique and got pretty much no where :s i would get about 3-4 times the amount of work done with the grinder than the drill haha. Cutting out and welding new pieces back in is all good and well but i have heard the more you cut out the less original metal there is. Which weaken the over all strength. So i will cut the very worst bits out and just weld up over the others. :)
WARDY,
i think i will just patch this tub up get it on the road thrash it for when and what i need it for and then look for a much better shell and move on to maybe an sr or ca project.
Cheers

Yes i am willing to spend the time on it and i think i will. i'm just about all the way back to bare metal. (the previous owner had just shoved a little bog here and there to fill an few holes. there was also like a house paint used on it very very thick and i even think there may have been some fiberglass bog used.) im going to try both alternates (melting brass onto the rust holes and also cutting the worst parts out and welding new pieces in and even just welding up the smaller nto as bad holes.) :)

well mine has much rust with in it and i'm looking at just patching it up for road worthy but its rusted here there and everywhere and so i was wondering if anyone else had had any experience with this problem.. (same as you armiee) like don't get me wrong i would much had the original but its old dinted, rusted and looks horrible. :( so i would much rather it looking nice or at least reasonable. i was also wondering if anyone had done this and had to get it engineered or if roadworthy had knocked it back?

Hey guys just wondering what people have done to there 1200 ute trays? whats involved with getting the bottom of your tray cut out and replaced with checker plate? is this a very big job? does this need to engineered and is it legal? Also would anyone have any idea of costs for this job? and on last thing would anyone happen to have photos from your jobs (if you have done this berfore....)
Cheers Eddy :)

yeh fair enough. i wouldn't mind moving the wall behind the drivers seats for either a sub box or just a back parcel shelf. but its a lot of work for very little gain. But good luck on your mission would love to see your progress all the way through!! cheers :)
