short answer: NO

long answer: there is not enough material in the block to bore an A12 out to an A15.
most of the difference in displacement comes from a larger bore in the A15, not just the longer stroke.

I don't know where you got your info, but it's wrong.
the front end of a 720 is an independent, torsion bar spring setup. this applies to both 2wd and 4wd models. the track of a 720 is about 5 to 6 inches (25 to 30 cm) wider than a 1200 and therefore wouldn't fit without major mods.
it may be that where ever you read what you read delt only with the differentual of a 720 4wd. as it is the R180 diff, this is very close in size to the same R160 that was used in the PL510 (bluebird) sedans as they had independant rear suspension.
putting independent rear suspension into a 1200 would require a great deal of work not only to the car, but also to the IRS setup used.

I wish I had taken pics. when I worked for a local dealer, we had a B210 come in on a hook with a dead A14. the owner had left it in 1st gear and was towing it behind a motor home at 65 mph. number 2 and 3 rods went through the left side of the block, numbers 1 and 4 were still in place but bent.
taking the time to figure for gear ratios and speed, it was turning about 16,000 rpm before it let go. funny thing was that the oil pan and the cylinder head were not damaged.

Datsun was a brand name for Nissan, like Chevrolet is for General motors.
Begining in 1979, Nissan began to change the corporate name from Datsun to Nissan to give better corporate identity. While I don't know about other parts of the world, here in the states, starting in 1979 vehicles were badged Datsun by Nissan. The plan was that by 1984 most would then be used to the Nissan name and starting as of 1985 vehicles were badged only as Nissan.
Nissan is one of the oldest new car manufacturers in Japan. The link will give those interested a history of the early beginings of the company.
And to answer your question in a more direct way, Datsun IS Nissan

ddgonzal, (and every one else),
this is where almost everyone gets confused,
GROSS horsepower is measured AT THE FLYWHEEL without any other accessories or drivetrain components atttached.
NET horsepower is measured AT THE REAR WHEELS with all drive accessories (waterpump, alternator, etc, transmission differentual) attached and opperating.
there is a big difference between gross horsepower and what is useable at the rear wheels, that is why the SAE set the standard for that mearurement, it is simply more accurate for the consumer.
the differences are easy to see if one compares the horse power ratings of a given engine with both figures: example a 1970 chev 350 LT1 will have a figure of arround 350 hp gross, where a 1972 chev 350 LT1 will have a figure of arround 225 hp net.
BIG difference in power ratings, but the engines are identical part for part.
like I said in my first post on this, it's comparing apples to oranges.
as far as the country differences go, most of the world uses the metric system for measurement, where as the US uses the english system so one will get different figures.
btw. the L16 used in the US was rated at 95 hp.
