OK I'll go....can you please explain the difference between this "tractive effort" and "torque"?

Like chris said, they are very sensitive and probably wouldn't take to kindly to being hacked apart. If you decide to give it a go, make sure it is in a peice of pipe of the exact same diameter as the original pipe as well as being mounted in the same position with respect to the pipe.

I don't know exactly how they work but I can imagine that air speed has a fair bit to do with it. If you use a smaller pipe you will get greater air speed and vice versa. The air speed also decreases the closer you get to the pipe walls.

I think it might be possible but you might find that the regular chip used to run a z32 afm may not be right for yours. You would be pioneering!

Thanks heaps chris. I replaced the TPS and the fault code has dissapeared. (I didn't go to much effort, a mate around the corner had a spare!).

This is all good and well but the real reason the car wouldn't go was a hmmm lack of petrol.

Somehow in about the last 4 months I have gone through 10 litres of fuel with barely even moving the car. Does the fuel tank hold a small amount of petrol below the outlet? That's the only way I can explain the fact that I put 10 litres in and had already run out.

Sorry to waste your time!

G"day guys,
I've just got the whole thing back together after some gearbox woes and started her up and it ran perfectly, just like when I had pulled it apart. Now yesterday I started it again and it ran ok but had a bit of a miss. Then last night I went out to do the timing and it sounded like it was only running on 2 cylinders and would barely rev until it got so bad it would not idle at all.

I checked the the fault codes on the computer and it's reading 43 which is the TPS sensor circuit. Can anyone help?

You have little faith converted. Without the injectors or airflow meter I would presume he would be already around the 135rwkw mark with a little bit of extra boost.

I suppose we will see

That would be great!!!! 5 speeds for everyone.

Unfortunately I don't think so. Whether it's the L series or the CA series gearbox I don't believe you can bolt them onto an A series motor.

The person who goes by "lagwagon" here has a hilux diff in his CA wagon and I believe he uses RX4 drums.

The Skyline stumpy gearbox solution.

G'day guys,
I just thought I would report my findings for anyone who is planning on using a skyline stumpy gearbox on a CA20 bellhousing. After putting the bellhousing over the gearbox it turns out that the smaller bearing visible in the bellhousing (The secondary shaft main bearing) is actually smaller than the cast hole/support in the bellhousing. This effectively means that the secondary shaft would only be supported at one end if something wasn't done about it!

Now all you have to do is get a prefferably new bearing from that same shaft from the CA20 gearbox. The NGK number of the bearing is B22-19C3UR. To swap the bearings over it is best to have someone press the old one off and the new one on but it involves the whole box to be pulled apart and can be costly.

People are going to cringe but I managed to get mine off reasonably easy with some wedges and hammers. The new bearing taps on quite easily.

Now the moral of this story is, use the S13 box from the start. I wish I did
It's a stronger, smoother box and even though it costs a little more in the beginning it would be marginal once you have considered the time and extra money involved in modifying the skyline box.

I hope this is helpfull some somebody!

Phunk,

I think that a backfire in a multipoint injected manifold would be confined to a port because no fuel is in the main body of the plenum.

I have bought another stumpy skyline box and CA20 bellhousing with the intention of putting another gearbox together for the car. When I went to put the CA20 bellhousing on the gearbox I noticed that one of the main end bearings is smaller than the hole in the bellhousing.

Do I have the wrong bellhousing?
Can I get another bearing pressed onto the shaft?
Can anyone give me a part number for this bearing?

Thanks
