I chose a T50 for availability, Removable bell housing, and I can get TRD gear packs for this box.
I would much rather have a strong gear box that can handle my crappy skills vs a decent gear box that can only handle them for a short time.

My point is there is no better gearbox.it comes down for what purpose your car is intended for and what type of torque or hp figures your engine will be producing.Drag cars will prob prefer glide autos, track cars prob close ratio gearboxes etc etc
Personally.for me there is no point running a supra v160 getrag gearbox behind an A12 powered race car because it can handle 800hp stock but the ratios don't match the engine and diff ...i guess it would be perfect for someone who just wants to cruise around.
and also because the a12 won't output as much torque and horsepower to warrant such a gearbox even though its stronger..

On the topic of trd gearsets,Do you have any idea how much a genuine TRD close ratio for a T50 landed in oz will cost you not including labour to fit it in?? The trd gearsets are intended to be paired with with the TRD final drive ring and pinion of 5.375.
You will be able to fit a w58 or getrag v160/161 for the price of an a-series t50 with a trd gearset if you would much rather a stronger gearbox...

and why would a decent gearbox last only for a short time??It wouldn't be decent if it lasts for a short time. Ts cups cars have been racing and running 56a-series boxes from the 1970s both in close ratio 4 speeds and 5 speeds. This were gearboxes designed by nissan omori/nismo for a12 race cars.

and as i stated before, i know some personal friends with rally cars and "weak" gearboxes who have never broken their gearboxes!

Once again,a big percentage of gearbox breakages are due to the driver skill.

Your prob better off to cut and shut a getrag v160 supra or w58 gearbox as opposed to a trd gearset a-series gearbox if your only after strength.

Original stuff will always command more but for most of us the better t50 box
or other boxes will handle the rare frustration release we so desire

I know many cars running what others would call a "weak" gearbox, some even in rally with no issues whatsoever. The trick is simply the drivers' skill.
You will break any gearbox if you don't shift properly....

The "better" T50 box? Better because it can handle more tq/hp or?

Sikyne,
Your work is nothing short of inspirational!
Your race car would have a cult following in japan.an A12 turbo powering a championship car in under 2 liter class is beyond words...
Well done and keep it up

Cheers

D,
That gearbox has been for sale for a couple of months now.If not mistaken since january.

The 56A series 5 speed boxes are even more soughted after in japan than the T50 gearbox.
56A 5 speed gearboxes esp the close ratio box won't even last for a week for $1700 !

also the japanese tend to value a-series way more and most cars have a-series modified engines as compared to sr and ca conversions in Oz.

Cheers

Went 3.5 seconds faster than last time with a 64.0, beating an E30 BMW M3 with full cage and all the gear. And only a couple of tenths off a Lotus Exige with all the aero bits. Not bad for a budget 120Y!

Absolutely amazing
Must be so fulfilling for you to see how the changes in your setup can gain such results.Better yet its all DIY mods.
well done mate !!!

also loved the videos.Must be frustrating for the owner of a pedigree machine M3 to be reeled in like that by a datsun 120y coupe which has been budget built.

So at this stage, what are your next mods?

Cheers

That looked like alot of fun

From your driving and passing more powered cars, you wouldn't know it doesn't handle that well.I think that's where driving experience compensates.Wonder how good it would do in a drift event lol

When is your next event? and what other mods before then?

Also there is some special mats that can be placed on top of the dash to reduce the sun glare.I now see why u recorded from the outside last time with the soarer.

D,
That seller has been selling those kits for the last few months.once an auction ends,he puts a new one up.Looks like very high quality items.

Also whoever is interested in such kits,do some research on the noise this drive kits make.
Many on japanese blogs who have put this kits on,after a while, end up taking them off due to the noises they make.

cheers

I know this is a nissan datsun site but just can't ignore where honda is heading..

Most nissan fans make fun of hondas lol but ive also seen this vtec motors beat turbo cars while in NA form.I think from this year onwards people won't be that quick to write off their upcoming type Rs.

The f20c NA engine from s2000 set a record of hp/liter no other production 4 cylinder engine (turbo or not) has broken yet...

The 2015 integra type R in europe is apparantely going to be pushing 350hp from a 2liter 4 cylinder turbo motor....
New nsx will be awd and also sure it will make a statement in the performance world once its released.
Also i think they say the successor to the s2000 will be awd?

Hoping newer cars whatever model, come with 1.8liters of turbocharged monsters as it would open more diverse engine conversions and bang for your buck. The technology nowadays is extracting alot of potential from small capacity engines.

I guess Nissan with cars like the R35 GTR and 370zs have set new standards for the other car makers.
Can't wait to see next rx7,supra etc which will have to compete with the GTR.
