Check the prices of new tie rod ends as they are only a little more than the starting price of the one on e-bay!

I'm up to 10 )although 3 will become 1.5 soon!)

Just wondering if anyone would be interested in going for a cruise to my car clubs (Murray Mallee Auto Club Inc) second show day? It is held at Swan Reach About an 1.5 hours from Adeliade. It's on April 10th and starts about 10am up there but if a group of people want to come along i can organise a cruise. I will need to know rough numbers wishing to attend so catering can be provided by the Lions club (PYO BBQ). The club is for anyone interested in cars and driving them and all vehicles are welcome. this is a private event but a number of local clubs have been invited and will be attending.

Yay i won it!

sorry for the slow delay I'm not online as much as I'd like to be with my new job taking up a lot of evenings, Hey I'm a Tupperware Demonstrator!

Got to do something to afford all the Datto 1000 parts and paraphanalia i'm acquiring!

will have a look at getting it reproduced but it's a small format that means it's already reduced from the original typewritten pages so a few are very blurry! have a friend in the business who could do a quote on multiple copies, anyone interested?

It's the name of the game, i keep going with mates. the problem with this is that they don't look out for datsun stuff but i look out for holden ot toyota stuff for them! I was blown away at the last one as i found a few "DATSUN" badges as found on a Datto 1000 whcich is only the second lot of 1000 parts i found at a swap meet the other lot was a full set of badges including a radio blank panel which i bought and left with the vendor to pick up on the way out and when i returned in about 25 mins he had left with my badges

I have also heard from a bloke i got some bits off of that you can use the rear disc brake set up off of a Bluebird TRX. Make sure you get the alloy backing plates and apparently they will fit with minimum modification straight onto the 1000 hubs. This means that you onkly have to convert to a twin system master cylinder, apparnetely one from a chyrsler lancer coupe from the early 80's has a two bolt to four bolt spacer and comes with a servo to boot! This is only what i've been told and i would appreciate any feedback from anyone who has done either or both of these mods!

from my experience about datsun heads there is not much difference between a 1200 head and a 1000 head, as far as the engine reconditioner was concerned they are the same and completely interchangable. However the later heads off of sunny and late 120Y's have an extra threaded hole at the front near the thermostat housing for the thermo-electirc choke switch.

you could increase the compression of the head by getting it shaved to the deck markings, but again this would only be a small increase and it brings the valves dangerously close to hitting the pistons at high revs!

I hope this helps a little and good luck with your quest!

With regards with the seat belt laws:
1.) All cars on normal rego in SA have to have seat belts for all passengers seated. even if you car did not have seat belts from new!
2.) All cars have to have new seat belts every 7 years!

Just a couple of usless laws to keep you amused! I've never heard of either being enforsed, i've even been pullled over by cops with 6 people in my HK which has only 4 seat belts and not been queried about it.

Another amusing Law: new registration plates must be fitted to all pre 1996 vehicles if purchased post 1997!

I have found a wrecker with three (at least) Datto 1000's all mostly complete! they have been in their storage yard for years and they want to empty the yard so they can fill it with more modern metal. So if any one wants any parts let me know asap as i have access to strip all three if i want to and don't really need all the parts myself. we found 2 2 door sedans and 1 4 door sedan there is supposed to be a wagon in there somewhere too!
