Ok im not after performance just after another gear so it doesn't sit high in the revs at 100+km so after reading through http://datsun1200.com/modules/mediawi ... le=60-Series_Transmission .... the one that suits me best would be the 60a correct?? And so the mounting plate from b projects which I posted the link to would be all I need to fit the gearbox...thanks for all the help greatly appreciated

Ahhk from what i read in that link there is a 56 series in a 5 speed as well as a 4 speed which im guessing is the stock 4 speed then there is a 60 series and 63 series.? Bprojects also got back to me and said they have the kit still. http://www.datsun1200.asia/category/s ... 292/pid/8884/language/en. quot

best 5 speed?

column shift vanette wont fit
GX 5 speed is NON overdrive so it wont drag your revs down
63 box, good luck finding one!

that leaves the std shift or dogleg shift 60 boxes---both OK but I prefer std shift

Ahhk thanks for the help guys seems like theres abit of work involved in getting one in and I dont have the tools nor the time to muck around unless I can find someone that is selling a gearbox and a fitting kit? Ill send that b projects a Facebook message and see where it leads me thanks for the info guys..Quote:

You sometimes need to make space in the transmission tunnel over the clutch fork, usually with a big hammer. You do have to make another gearbox crossmember, as the overdrive 5 speeds have the mount further back on the box. This is usually a U shaped plate that faces forward, so the standard mounts can be used. Or either B-Projects or Pitroad sold a kit to do the same that looked really good. I'm sure that there are photos in the Album & the wiki, showing you what to do. I can remember posting photos myself a few years ago of some I had. The tailshaft is the correct length & size already. You also have problems with the reversing light hitting the gearbox body mounts. I always fitted the gearbox to the engine, then letting the back of the box down enough so you could fit the reversing light. I'd then jack the gearbox up into the car. A few taps with a ballpein hammer to the front of the body mount can help, too. This is on the right hand side, obviously.

Hey guys I know this has probably been answered so im sorry if it has but Im starting to think its time to upgrade to a 5 speed in my datto now Ive heard that it can be done and with a 5 speed out of another datto and it will bolt up.. now just wondering if someone can tell me if it will be a direct bolt in job and wont need any mods at all to the tailshaft or diff or anything or if I will need to make some mods as from what ive read real quickly some people say it will bolt straight up with no mods while others are disagreeing. thanks Andrew
