Just a head's up boy's the wheels in this picture are up for sale.

They are billet wheels (alex's from maddat's old ones) 4 wheels in total (no spare)

15x6 front/rear with i think +20 offset yoki 195/50 99% brand new tread have not been driven on new tread just rolled in out of shed.

They are 4x114.3 and 4x100 bolt pattern

I will get some new decent pic's up of the wheels later tonight asking $600.00 mainly to get back the cost of the tires, but price is negotiable.

I will also have up for sale a Down Draught 32/36 weber and manifold to suit A15 ill get pic's asap when i get home

Basic tapping instructions will give you a rough guide, I am only assuming that you have not done this before. Also, you will need to put some cloth inside the shifter quadrant to protect it from the metal shavings.

Personally I would have the gearbox on the bench at the least for this job.

BTW, it looks like a nice basic shifter kit.
Re: Mad Dat A-series short shifter kit

I have taped many things before im just not sure where im going wrong... i didnt think id need to state its an m10x1.25 as we are Australian so i thought it would be a given that its metric. I do have a large cloth in the quadrant hole. but i just cant get it to start tapping
In regards to drilling the tap what i mean is to put the m10x1.25 bit into the drill and slowly tap using the drill instead by hand not actually drilling the hole itself. but as stated from "benny" its not a good idea so i won't be doing that again.

This is the same Tap and Die Kit i have that i borrowed from my brother 76 piece snap on
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Snap-On-76-pi ... ain_0&hash=item27c755859c

But i think the main issue is that i may not be using a starting tap i may have to look back through the set and see if there is a different m10x1.25 that may look like a starter tap.

The Gearbox is now out of the car so ill give it a go tonight and take your advise and check the tap itself.

Got a quick question for you boys regarding the A-Series short shifter kit.

The kit includes a new gearshifter and a bracket plus instructions for installation.

Now the installation kit advises to tap & die the gearbox bolt cire clip hole's with a 10x1.25 now i have attempted the tap and die installation idea but i can't get it to Tap correctly with a 10x1.25 the tap would only be around .1 - .3 (thats if my eye sight is correct) of a millimetre larger then the original hole's. Which technically should be enough for the thread.

But my issue is i just cant get it to tap - i have attempted via hand tap and die and also attempted with a drill with very slow speed to get it to work but nothing seems to be going my way.

Now my main question is it possible for me to just tack the bracket with the MIG?? thus resolving the issue very quick. (or is it not possible to tack weld on the gear box?? - the gearbox is a 56a series 5 speed)

Or will i need to tap it a larger size i.e 10x1.35 and just fingers crossed it works. But the issue in this instance is the bracket has a 10x1.25 hole which means that would need to be drilled a little larger.

Is anyone running one of these kit's??

Main reason i want to run this kit is so i DON'T have the gear lever loose and wooble in the gearbox.

The Main question to ask more than anything is how much are you willing to spend or how much do you have?

It may seem like a great idea and beleive me i thought i knew enough about the costing and the car to get by with $12 grand and im up near $30K now...

But Back to your questions..
--------------------------------

What sort of things should I be looking for?
Main thing to look for in most datsuns is RUST (surface rust is only cosmetic and should not be a deterrent) but the main things are going to be found with the floor pan or the front wheel arches - If looking into a ute make sure to check the inner of the rear quaters of the tray beacuse it can be a notourious issue and can be a real pain to fix (but most certainly fixable)

What is a fair price for a solid fixer up vs a driver?
Now it really depends on the condition of the car and the engine hell some people on here have got great bargins even myself picked up my second ute for $3000.00 with an A15, 5 speed box no serious rust on the body but the floor pan was shot had rego on the car and its a blast. In saying that you could just have it ghetto as and cruise around and put some cash and work into it as it goes. But do you want a car running and have the status of driving the Datsun or have it sitting in your shed for the next year on stands as mine has been??

How much are the pristine ones worth
By pristine it depends what your meaing?? Are you meaning a one owner datsun with low miles with no rust in original condition or a worked datsun 1200 with an SR20 running a GIANT T88 turbo setup with paint and interior??
It Depends on the car and work its alot harder to find the "pristine" original owner with all original panels and miles and even then its hard to tell the cost comes down to the owner any where from $10k - $30k i guess and the same goes for a worked datsun with say an sr20 it comes down the how much wrench time and hard labour has gone into the car i.e look at alex's mad dat purple 1200 worked to the #OOPS# house witht the best of the best and i think he's asking $27k on car sales..

Are they easy to work on and get parts for?
They most certainly are easy to get parts for and quite cheap - but still in saying that it depends on the part and whats already in the car. Body part wise such as a tailgate or quater panels looking around $120 - $200 depending where you look and buy.. Can get remanifactured bumpers and what not but the hard to find things are the rare parts such as genuine GX parts, dash boards and numerous other little parts like the chrome but the major things can easily found.. If wanted you can still get crate A15 engines and what not from japan

Hopefully this helps you a little but if you tell us a costing and what exactly your looking for and how you want it to look run and all the other little things we can give you a better answer
