One more thought, keep the rear drums adjusted up

Also, a brake "bias" valve like Nascar uses might be of assistance..

Just do NOT use a "orifice" type valve as this will restrict the back-flow of brake fluid when you release the brakes.

Tom, my posting, though rambling and waay too long.

It was supposed to imply that we [I] wanted an alternative to the "Micro-Car" and the Datsun 1200 with modern electronics would be a nice option.

Datsun's back in my day had cast iron rings, unlike Toyota who copied Chrysler with Chrome faced rings for a "fast-break-in" period.

Lots of old Datsun freaks here got well over 200k mi without rebuild.

Not to say modern cars are inferior, I'm only saying "make a simpler auto"

Thanks for reading this mess

I dunno about the Nissan bolts.

However, check for a Mill Supply Store with the Grade 8 equiv that you guys on the bottom of the world use, err 12.9 ? is that close.

Fastenall Bolt company is a reputable dealer.
There's a world of info on their site.
www.fastenal.com/web/products.ex?N=999600001

BEWARE of bolts with No Company Logo on the head, or nuts with NO slashes around the perimeter.

Air compressor.

Just pull the plugs, insert "check valves"
Remove the exhaust rockers and pushrods, there ya go, hook up the elec motor.

Some of the "Good ol Boys" or "Backwoods" guys keep a setup where they can install ONE compressor outlet from a spark plug hole.
Granted the a/f ratio in the tire may be a bit Lean, still a way to get out of the woods.

I'm considering putting a 10kw Generator Head on mine on the block threads made for an A/C mount. [100~#]
Installing a Dual-Fuel system,
Gasoline and Propane and have a
83amp @ 120vac or
40a @ 220vac mobile power plant.

Well, living in the country of the "World-Police" Force [US MILITARY] I'm limited to choices.

BTW, a 96 and up Chevy p/u, Yukon etc, will do an easy 140 mph
[with the speed limiter uncorked]

Granted even the Western US is pretty open, nothing like the Outback :)

Hmm, no commentary regarding Dood's comments or the condition of the water logged vehicle ?

40 years ago, a dealer trying to pull shi* like this would have gotten his jaw broken, then the police would have taken him on an "Elevator-Ride"

went through a whole set of easy-outs,

Left-Hand drill bits often remove broken bolts as well and sometimes easier than easy-outs

Ease-Outs exert an outward force against the thread holes whereas LH bits do not.

is the use of Loctite necessary

Not in my view, in "This" application as the vibration is minimal, Granted do make Note the usage you guys are putting the A series is beyond by experience.

Regarding "Proper" bolt torque, this is related to several usages.
1 - Clamping Force
2 - Bearing "Crush" Force

Regarding the Pressure plate & Flywheel use, I suggest going by the bolt capacity chart instead of the Nissan suggested torque.

Without Hi-Po Rotors,
i.e. Ventilated, cross-drilled, exotic metals etc

"My" suggestion is Organic or Semi-Metallic.
Also, there was some heat anti=transfer tape or paste at one time to help keep the calipers as cool as possible.

Other posters will most certainly have a more qualified view but this has worked well for me in the past. Keep in mind that most of my information is,, well ancient to be honest, so double-check my suggestions.

Your cooling ducting to the rotors will impact the "setup" also, as will the type of wheel material and wheel air flow characteristics.

For example, "alloy" wheels like Magnesium and Aluminum will suck up and expel heat faster than steel. Also some have "ventilation" of heat designed into the castings.

An afterthought, going to Dot-5 fluid on "non-anti-lock" vehicles can help with brake fluid boiling.
You must totally flush the entire system first, and I suggest new rings for the master and slave cylinders as well as new rubber brake lines.

E-85 requires much more compression on a non-ECM/PCM controlled engine.

FYI,
Pure Gasoline has 115,000 BTU per US Gal
Ethanol has about 76,000 BTU's per US Gal

On Carb/non ECM vehicles, the A/F ratio has to be richer by about 30% or more.
E-85 was designed for Flex/Fuel Vehicles.

Note Alcohol Dragsters must build Massive Engine Heat or they have icing in the intake, then a massive BOG as the engine drops power.

Run it out, siphon it out, and Hope it don't erode your rubber components in the fuel system.

I think Brazil uses Ethanol as a primary fuel, but they can produce it cheaply and modify the vehicles to operate properly on it.

You got that right.

Japan is one of the few nations that do not allow GM crops or other Growth Hormones etc etc to be imported,

Their view is the US is a "testing" ground and Japan is waiting to see what happens to the children.

For those with limited time, I copied my main ideas, which were Post No. 11
Here goes;

Since the "real" MPG engines and methods are bought and stored by Corporate America, let's use some existing hardware.
This is all Junk we presently have, in production, with the bugs worked out.

1- All engines shall have One TBI [Throttle Body Injector per Cylinder
[IF it's good enough for Formula 1, put it on the road.

2 - All engines TBI manifolds shall be "tuned" like the Cross Ram Chrysler Wedge Motor
this builds torque at low rpm, and allows time for the mixture to completely atomize.

3 - All engines shall have ONE Oxygen Sensor per Cylinder, what's this crap putting a SINGLE O2 sensor on a multi-cylinder engine and getting an "average" air-fuel ratio ?

4 - Each Cylinder shall have independent timing & Air/Fuel mix controlled by the O2 sensor & ECM/PCM

5. All engines shall have a"Heat-Riser" valve for back pressure control. at low engine speeds, increased "back-pressure" builds torque, higher RPM and increased throttle demand, they open as necessary, ECM/PCM Controlled .

6 - All engines shall have insulation on the exhaust manifold to the catalytic converter for faster "Flame-On"

7. Catalytic converters shall be installed as close to the head as possible, minimizing the "Flame-on" time.

8 - All engines shall have variable valve timing.

9 - Engines shall be equipped with an Oil Debris monitor to keep the VVT operative.

10 - All cars shall be dimpled, like a Golf Ball to decrease drag, see Myth-busters for stats, Clean Car=26.4, 1084 golf ball dimples=29.6 mpg.

11 - All cars shall be equipped with shaped front air dams to reduce the drag [Cd] and to route airflow away from the front tires.

12 - All cars shall be made with under-body panels and side skirts to reduce drag.

13 - All cars shall be made with grill shutters like old diesel trucks and the Cruze ECO

14 - All engines will use hot air from the exhaust manifold instead of outside air, when ambient temps allow.

15 - Engines should be made with thicker and Sodium Filled Valves to allow for higher combustion temperatures and run at lower RPM's.

16 - Outside mirrors should be replaced with mini camera's and inside monitors to reduce drag, as well as "back-up" camera's and waring tones for objects behind the vehicle.

17 - Overall vehicle weight should be reduced, optional fancy components[power windows, seats etc] replaced with stronger A-Pillars and B-Pillars

18 - Ethanol / Alcohol fuel additives shall be replaced by other chemicals that do NOT require farmer subsidy, giving Monsanto yet another stronger foot hold on the economy.

19. Diesel Automobile EPA restrictions shall be relaxed to allow the burning of B-100 Bio-Diesel as long as it comes from sources that are NOT subsidized by the US Govt.
If the EPA will NOT relax the "too-much, too-soon" standards on Auto diesel engines,
then an in-tank monitor shall be installed to inform the ECM/PCM of the percentage of Bio-Diesel and perform DPF Burn-Off procedure's accordingly.

20 - The Last, [aren't you glad] TO THE BIG-3 and Everyone Else Making Cars.
We do NOT care about 300, 400 or more Horsepower, Except "performance" cars of course.

We DO care about, torque to get to road speed and mostly, MILES-PER-GALLON

And quit making those crap transmissions on FWD cars, Please..

Rusty Wrench

epilogue, comments like this can result in 'accidents'
Rudolph Diesel wanted his engine to operate of the Bio-Diesel of the time, his arguments were met with silence, as he was soon to meet his early demise.
