I've been looking on the web for a source of Cams for my A12a (1237cc), it is Nissan re-manufactured engine with no mileage. I hope to use 76mm pistons, lighten the flywheel, deck the head a little, electric fuel pump, twin Dellorto's 40s with a 30 choke and headers. I'm using it on a Lotus 7 replica so the exhaust will do a 90 degree turn and out the side. What type of cam profile would you recommend and what companies do you know of who would have them available. I'm in the states, but cam's aren't heavy to mail.
Thanks for all of your advice. Dog

My map only has Alabama, no North or South ?
I still love the lightness of my A12a
New Guy - an A13 is 1300cc and an A14 is 1400cc. Many people upgrade to A15 which is 1500ccs.

I believe you probably have an A12a engine of 1237cc. Look at you serial number and it should start with the A series number. A12, a12a, a13, a14, or a15. Many modifications are possible, including going to 76mm pistons which I believe brings you to 1280cc. A popular upgrade is to get A14 (1400cc) pistons for this upgrade. The head can be ported & polished and you can change Carburetion. I am building a Locost 7 with a A12a engine and am using twin side draft Delorto 40s. I believe many of the parts for A series engines are interchangeable.
Look on a dally basis on this forum for upgrade ideas. I assume N. Alabama is in the USA? Many of the people here are from Australia, NZ, SA as well as other parts of the world. Many options are regional. EBayMotors is a great way to look for parts. search for "Datsun (1200, a12, a12a, a13, a14, a15, 210, b210)" and then do it again with Nissan instead of Datsun.

Any sidedraft manifold can be used. Dell'Orto. Mikini-Solex & weber all use the same bold pattern.
I know that here in the states we get our A series engine manifolds from Australia. Lynx and redline are two that I know of.
Good luck.

I'm in Merrick, just north of Jones Beach!
I wanted to make sure I could get a rebuild kit, (seals & jets) and such. The carbs are in good order, I believe they are set up for competition GT-5, and I'm going to use them on a A12a in a Locost 7, for street and autocross. so I may have to re jet them.
I couldn't get an e-mail address for Mikuni-USA, guess I'll have to call.

I have been offered a pair of Mikuni-Solex side drafts all set up with intake and linkages for a good price. The only thing holding me back is that I can't find any website that has spare parts for this carb? Mikuni-USA only seems to support Motorcycle, and snowmobile carbs. Mikuni-Japan said to contact Mikuni-USA???
any one know of any soiurces for parts?
Please HELP!

The people on E-Bay selling the carbs said that Weber (Italy) carb production stopped in the early 1990's, THe DCOE wasn't made by Weber(Italy) after the mid 1980's and that Weber(Italy) made the DCOM as a replacement for the DCOE. The DCOM was produced until Weber ceased production of Carbs.
But Weber DCOEs continue to be produced in Spain and only is sold in the USA. The e-Bay seller (located in Italy) said the Spanish DCOEs are not sold in Europe since they didn't meet the higher standards of Europe that the Italian Webers met.
Dellurto also ceased production in the 1990s when FI became the norm and put carbs out of business.
From what I can see parts are available for both Webers and Dellurtos.
At these prices I'm tempted to go with the Webers, even though I have a nice pair of Classic H4 SUs.

I just saw Weber 40 DCOM on e-bay for US$ 179 a pair and Dellorto 40 DHLA for US$ 129 a pair and US$ 65 for one.
On a A12 what is your opinion of 1) twin 1 1/2 SUs 2) Twin Weber 40 DCOMs 3) Twin Dellorto 40 DHLAs, or 4) a single Weber DCOM or Dellorto DHLA
I'm not sure if the DCOM is an equal or close to a DCOE, but at these prices ? what about the Dellortos?

I just saw in classifieds a pair of 40 DCOEs for sale and they said f16 emulsions and 34mm chokes.
What type of intake manifold did you use for the SUs? I'm looking for an intake for a pair of SUs I picked up for my A12a.
