I used 14 gage steel (?mm) 25mm x 25mm square tubing instead of the 16 gage the book recommended. I am using TR Spitfire uprights and a MGS steering rack. I believe that if I place the steering rack even with the attachmant points at the spindle that there should be little bump steer. I'm using GAX coil over shocks from the UK.

I have a 1980 Corolla SW in my Locost and Phantom grip said that they would make one for me for US$300 if I shipped my Dif down to them in Florida, USA.
E-mail them and see what they say.

I'm building a locost, I've welded the frame up from square tubing, but if you got the $$ a fully welded frame is the way to go. I've got some parts from CMC in Georgia, USA and Steve there is great! I used a 1980 Corolla SW rear end and was thinking about using a MG midget 1275cc engine until I found a Nissan re-manufactured A12a for US$ 300. I'll probably get the same Hp out of either engine but the Nissan should last longer and I believe it is lighter!! I hope to come in around 1100 lbs, and if I can get 90 Hp I'll be very happy.
Since I'm trying to build a Lotus 7A replica I will be using a Lotus nose which is lower that a Locost's. I wanted a lower engine so nothing would peek out of the bonnet.

I'm on Long Island, Merrick and I was up at 5:30 bidding on the same item, but it got too rich for my blood.
I'm building a Locost 7a (lotus seven a replica) and I'm using an A12A engine. Right now I'm trying to finish up the car and figgured I'd do just minor work on the engine, a cam, some head work, an exhaut & headers and twin SUs. I have the carbs, but I don't have an intake. There is a place in Rhode Island, Rimflow that has a lynx intake that runs around $300, if I could have gotten the eBay item for $75 it would have been a deal, but if I pay close to $200, I'd probably be better off with the Lynx.
Thanks for thinking of me though! I love the lightness of the engine. If I get my car around 1200 lbs and hopefully 85Hp or so I'll be happy.

I am looking for an intake manifold for twin SUs for my A12a. I don't need carbs just the intake. Is there any other source for an intake for twin SUs?

I just read the rest of you post
I'm using an A12 in a Lotus 7A replica (Locost 7) that I'm building. I'll do no more that 3,000 miles a year, I train into NYC for work. So the cost of premium fuel won't be a factor. But here in the states we are currently paying $2.05 a US gallion (about 4 liters) for premiom and $1.85 for 89 octane. That is why there are a lot of Big cars here in the US that get 8-11 miles a gallon.
I saw A12 flat tops on the net some where so I assumed I should be able to get A12a flat tops, and since they would be replacement pistons I thought they may make them a little oversized. I saw on e-bay stock A12a pistons + .02 inch just a day or so ago, tha twould make arround 1250 cc.
I just purchased a New Old Stock A12 a few days ago and am awaiting its' delivery.

I've read some of the stuff in the tech area and am looking for a duriable light 4 speed transmission to attach to my A12. I am looking to find out what Datsun models had to best 4 speed to use, this would help me in looking at the salvage yards.

If you want to go to 1270 you can use A12a + .04 inch pistons and not have to deal with the making the A14 pistons fit your rods.
My question is are flat top pistons better and how much would they raise compression without cutting the deck?
What is the best source ( where can I find them) of A12a flat top pistons?
