Picked up my paint this morning and had a chat to the guy there. He said there was no need to sand in between coats unless I had a put of orange peal.......Spend most of the day masking (what a job that was)and started to put down the green, I must have had to much paint in the bowl and when painting over the bonnet some paint came out of the breather and I have a couple of drops/ runs. Parts of the car have 2-3 coats and look realy good but need two more coats.

What do I do now, can I put down the last two coats without a light sand or should I go over all of the car with 1200 and sand out the runs.....any help thanks.

Can anyone help

Ok, thanks for all the help. Heres the plan, i,ve decided to do a double mask as I thought the first mask will be the hardest as the second is just running the tape up to the first paint line.

Prep car in 400 grit....done.

Mask up stripes.....done. (I used the 6mm tape, it was,nt as hard to get the lines straight and even as I thought) Each stripe is 350mm wide and runs over bonett, over the roof and boot and ass end of the beast.

Next weekend provided I get some good weather.

Put down six coats of the first colour (green), sand with 1200 between the 2nd and 4th coat and finish with 1500 or 2000 after the 6th coat.

Second mask leaving 1mm of green showing.

Put down the black again sanding between every 2nd coat and finish with 1500 or 2000.

Pull off masking and sand off the lip to create a smooth finish with 1500 or 2000.

Six coats of clear sanding every 2nd coat 1200 and finish with 2000.

Buff for a super shiney finish.......

And for the sanding between each coat of colour, is this something I need to do???
My base coat/ primer is on the car now and I have blocked that back with 400 grit, should I change to 280???? Thanks in advance....

Great thanks for this. So would you sand between each coat, say 5 or 6 coats of colour and 5 or 6 coats of clear, so sand 10 to 12 times. Also what grit would you use for that befor sanding with 1200 or 1500 for snicking and buffing........
