Just wondering if anyone here has done an SR20 in to 1200 conversion as i have recently purchaced an SR20DE and in between working on my rally car i hope to fit it to a 1200.

If anyone's done it, any pointers or major obsticles?

I'm assuming you have drum brakes, with brake linnings instead of disk brakes, on all four corners.
An easy upgrade would be fit the struts with disk brakes out of a 1200 coupe as far as i'm aware you would also need the master cylinder out of a coupe, which is needed for any disk brake convesion.
Alternatively there are many other struts out of bigger datsuns that will also fit that have bigger disk brakes like the sunny for example, these would require at least 13 inch rims.
Disks on the front is a good start but disks all round is better, on my rally car i have blubird trx rear disks but an upgrade to 14 inch rims is almost a nesessity, except for rare cases where some types of 13 inch rims would fit over.
As for boosters I'm not to sure but have heard that 180b ones have been used. I'm sure there is other options out there though.

Are you sure it's a dogbox and not just a close ratio 5 speed? I didn't think any of the a-series gearboxes came with dog engaugement as opossed to syncromesh type?
I'd love a close ratio dogbox for my 1200 rally car that'd be awesome!!

Match porting and cleaning of rough edges is a good idea. I think the valves from the a14 are the same size as a12, but the a15 has larger valves,someone please correct me if i'm wrong. One thing to consider when porting a head is the position of things such as water or oil pockets or galleries as you don't want to run into these.

Lighter flywheel will aid quicker acceleration and deaccelaration not necessarly give you more rpm. For that you will most likely need some double valve springs and to open up the ports with a bigger carby and extractors for more rpm. But of course this costs a bit more.

Not to sure about the flyweels but i was using an a14 pressure plate on my a12 so i'd guess they'd be compatible. Don't know if one's lighter than the other though.

On my rally coupe I have shorter steering arms on the bottom of the struts to make a quicker turn. I think it's just more than two turns lock to lock. Means I don't need a massive hand-over-hand effort everytime i go sideways usually just needs a flick off the wheel to correct.

Sorry not sure what they're off but the struts are off a Gazelle so maybe thats it.

I've heard that Commodore inserts will fit into sunny struts. Is this true does anyone know? If so What model commodore inserts fit?

The sunny swaybar doesn't fit 1200s. I remember trying it. I think the shape was slightly different and the sunny has a slightly wider track than the 1200.

I've got a 3.7:1 ratio centre that I'm not sure what it's out of. I know it fits a 1200 ute diff but not sure about a normal 1200 diff.

Apparently you can get a nismo lsd centre that suits a C20 van 4.875:1 ratio diff to go in a 1200 ute housing. Approximately $1800 from memory. I found this out about two years ago when I was wondering about a lsd for my rally car. Quite expensive so my centre is just welded up. Not really suitable for the road though.
