Here are the stock fuel pump specifications :

71-73 A12 2.4 psi (0.18 kg/cm2) 450cc/min
1974 A13 3.4 psi (0.24 kg/cm2) 450cc/min
1975 A14 3.8 psi (0.27 kg/cm2) 600cc/min
1976 A14 3.0-3.8 600cc/min

Since these all use basically the same carb, you can see the exact pressure isn't so important ... Just make sure the flow is enough.

The flow test is done at 1,000 rpm: disconnect and plug the fuel line. Start the engine, and let the fuel go into (at least) a one liter container. Turn the engine off in one minute and measure how much gasoline was pumped. Be careful ...

These are US specs, but probably the same for other countries.

For the 1200-to-A14 motor mounts, see Gil's left motor mount and Gil's right motor mount. Thanks to Dimlight for the photos.

To make smaller versions of pictures, I use STGthumb -- it's freeware available at http://www.zdnet.com/downloads. This resizes most photo formats into jpgs of any arbitrary size. Jpg is basically the only format you want for the web anyways.

When you resize, make sure to check the option to "keep proportions" (or similar wording) so the picture isn't distorted squshed side to side or top to bottom.

This program doesn't crop (let you cut out a portion of a photo). I use Windows Paint for that, but there are free programs that are easier to use.

In Paint to crop:

1 use the rectangle tool to mark an area, then use the Cut command.
2. Start a new Paint, set the Image Attribute menu to very small (like 32 x 32) and Paste. It'll automatically size up.

Regarding the engine, a downdraft Weber is probably the most improvement per dollar. It'll let the A14 make more power over 5,000 rpm. It's cheaper than a sidedraft since you don't need new manifold and you can get the licensed Holley version instead of the Weber version. For more info see 1200 Weber 32/36 page.

I think even better use of money is to lower your 1200 and put wider tires on the back (185/70 or 205/60).

If you drive at highway speeds, the most important change might be to put a 5-speed in. Definitely do this if your A14 comes with it.

Your firefighting vehicle avatar is cool!

You've inspired me to look up the word.Quote:
avatar: image of person in virtual reality: a movable three-dimensional image that can be used to represent somebody in cyberspace, for example, an Internet user
This is apparently derived from older usage of the word: "manifestation of an idea or concept"

reference: Encarta World English Dictionary

drop the crossmember, engine, gearbox, manifolds etc, onto the ground, get 3 or 4 people at the front, then lift the body up & over the engine, gearbox etc.& pushl the car back
Having 3-4 guys lift the car is easier than 2 people lifting the motor? I don't get it ... but then again, I've only tried the 2-person method.

Don't forget that with anything bigger than an A15 you need a stronger differential.

Using the original 1200 diff is OK with an A14, but with an A15 it is borderline. If you have a A15 w/5-speed (taller first gear), the 1200 diff will live.

Quote:
What would be the advantage of going for a CA18 N/A over a 4age?

The main advantage is that the CA engine is a Nissan product. On the other hand the Toyota motor has more power, fits into a 1200 more easily and has an excellent (and available) 5-speed.

If you are going to use the original 1200 4-speed, don't think about an A15 unless you plan to drive it very carefully, as an A15 can easily break the small transmission.
