Backspace is from the wheel mounting surface to the inside edge of the wheel. Includes the distance from the inner bead seat to the inner lip of the wheel.

Does an original one have water ports in the manifold?

Yes, the GX manifold had water heat.

Do some pulls up a hill with a good amount of throttle working in the 2500 to 4000 rpm range. It's the compression gases behind the rings that provide the force to hold the rings against the cylinder walls.

If you baby the engine too much during break in the rings don't get the force necessary to seat properly.

WMC (Willamette Motorsports Club) and the club I belong to, NWAA (North West Autosports Association) put on the first annual Maryhill Loops Road hillclimb run under the NHA (National Hillclimb Association) sanction. The hill is located near Goldendale Washington on the north side of the Columbia river gorge. Maryhill loops road was the first paved road in the pacific northwest of the US. The road was build between 1911 and 1913. The portion of the road we used for the hillclimb is ~1.9 miles long.

Here is a video of my 3rd and final run on Sunday and the best run I made at this event.

Maryhill Loops Sunday run 3

I really need to get the 1608 built. 51HP is not the tool to bring to a hillclimb...

I purchased my flares for the 1200 from ZG flares on ebay. The set I ordered was for the z-car. I can't find the receipt to give the part numbers. The front flares extend out 2.5" the rears extend out 3.5".

The flares are quite sturdy- we have smacked many cones at speeds up to 65 mph with no damage.

I prefer the 63A on ratios alone. 1st and 2nd are a little bit taller. This helps close the large gap between 2nd and 3rd that the 60A has. 5th is slightly lower on the 63A also. Makes for a box with nicer gear spacing overall.

The extra strength is nice also.

Years ago I set up what I thought was a creative anti theft system. Don't know if it will work with modern stereos...

Wire in a relay to supply power to the coil (or more items) that is energized by the car stereo remote power switch line. If the stereo is turned on the car will start. If the stereo is off the car won't start. Just don't turn the stereo off while driving...

Might give the KYB GR2 inserts a try. Not sure of the prices for KYB products in OZ but their pretty low cost here.

I have the early Z GR2 inserts in my 1200 with 250# springs and it works great. Nice balance of spring and damping.
