It depends entirely on your budget. I got my std seats retrimmed with extra padding to stop my butt & sholders from sliding around so much. That was fairly cheap. A mate of mine put CRX seats into a coupe. They fit really well, but U have to make up new brackets to mount them and that only took 2hrs. Or U could just go down to Playtime, steal some seats off daytona & bolt them down with tech-screws, not sure if they R legal though. Has your ute still got the front drumo's? Mely

A forced injection engine will be more efficient than a NA engine. The efficiency is directly related to the compression ratio, so when your boost guage reads above zero psi, the compression is up. But U have to run better fuel to avoid pre ignition. The turbo is more efficient, but U will definatly use more fuel because U will give it the herbs more often. Mely

Go to the Encyclopedia Britanica website. Or better yet get the cd of someone. It has heaps of grassroots info on the internals of a inline 4. Mely

No offence intended mate, I was just wondering how long a cramped engine swap took. I put an 8 in my old HQ, but that only took one and a half days. Our HQ's are like your old 70's valiants so there was no problems with enough space. I have heard that the stumpy skyline g-box would fit better. Do you know if it bolts up to the SR20? Mely

Thanks davo, that cuts out 1 possibity. The guy who put the SR 20 in the coupe has been going for almost 18 months. That is really disheartening. Does it take that long to do the CA18det swap? I thought I read somewhere that Andrew did it in less than 8 weeks. Please tell me that is a more realistic time frame. mely

The SR is a much better engine. And it would be much easier than fiddling with the plumbing for the ca18det. Another mate of mine has a ca18de in a 1600, and the SR20de in the 200B pulls much harder. Both R stock. But the SR is a bit more expensive up front. The internals in the SR stock are stronger than the stock CA ones. It depends what U want, if you want to bust wheelies for 2 gears, then put some tough internals in the ca18det, crank up the boost and away you go. But if you just want a car with a spirited ride, then the SR non turbo would be better than the CA non turbo. The only reason the SR20de would be cheaper on insurance is that it is non turbo, vs the CA18det. mely

I thought the firewall had to be moved to fit the sr20 in. A mate has a sr20 non turbo in a 200B SSS. It has 145 hp on the ground & moves quite well. I have not measured it, but the std 5 speed only just fits down the tunnel, and it is way bigger than the 1200 tunnel. A skyline stumpy may be a better option. If it would fit with only a little more effort than the ca18det, it would be much better for insurance premiums. Has anyone done the convert? mely

The 720 front diff will drop straight in. The guy I bought my ute off had it in a 1200 sedan. mely

The easy LSD upgrade for a 1200 is a 720 front diff. But that still leaves U with bodgy drumo's. Basically what were looking for is an upgrade with discs, non IRS, and the same or larger wheel track. Does a 1600 wagon have rear discs? Is the standard scorpion diff open cntr? Without going the cut down ford nine inch convert, what is the easiest way to get a LSD with discs in a 1200 ute. Mely
