That`s not a small cam!
Have you had the distributer re-graphed?
Then play around with the valve timing.
This made a lot of difference to my stock a12, I`ve squeezed 150kph out of it!

it`s a 4speed.

With all due respect, sounds like your drag racing mate needs a 9-inch!
Who in their right minds would think manufacturers of production vehicles over-engineer any components! I thought the whole idea of modifying a vehicle was to over-engineer it with stronger components?

700kg 1200, 1400kg+ subaru? Sounds like good mathematics to me !

Talking to my diff guy in a few days, talk to you`s then.

I recently replied to nicolas RE:" skimming of cylinder head ". I stuffed that one up!
Correct information but WRONG head! Please disregard the thumbprint & minimum machining info.

I called a good engine- reco buddy of mine, who is still in the trade,& the following info is spot-on.

STANDARD HEAD THICKNESS NISSAN A-SERIES:
a12(local) 73.990mm-74.090mm
a12(import)71.755mm-71.882mm
a14 & a15 74.143mm-74.295mm

NOTE: Minimum head thickness a12(local) 72.85mm.Therefore maximum machine tolerance is 1.25mm.Good engine shops follow this as rule of thumb (no punn intended)

My sincerest apologies to anyone who was confused, please forgive me! WON`T happen again.

Talked to a diff guru today.
Told him i wanted an lsd 4 my 1200ute,he said "H165,yeh i`ve been looking at that subaru lsd centre on the shelf & i reckon that it wouldn`t take much to make it fit! Same splines,160mm diameter, hmmm? That`s only 5mm (mumble,mumble-scratch,scratch). Let me work on it," he said "give us a call in a week or so & i`ll tell ya how i went"

I said
"So how much you reckon?"
He said "About $500 for the centre, hmmm (scratch, scratch) maybe i`ll do a deal, give us your centre & that`ll make it $300,then i`ll probably want $150 to fit it. How`s that sound? Alright?"

Isaid "FUCK YEH ! ! ! I`ll call u next week"

Keep u all posted & if it works out will supply details.

Have a look at an a-series cylinder head & you`ll notice two casting depressions along one edge of the head-gasket sealing face.
These look like thumbprints.
The manufacturer purposefuly put them there to guage maximum machining tolerance.
When these thumbprints disappear, the cylinder head is at minimum thickness & is no longer servicable.
Hope this helps you?
