You may actually be onto something with the heating up - just did a google on thermal expansion coefficient...and the numbers are in.

Material Hi Lo (inches per F)
Aluminum & its Alloys 13.7 11.7
Coppers 9.8 7.7
Alloy Steels 8.6 6.3

Looks like Aluminium expands at a faster rate than copper.

Now just depends on how the head expands - if it expands inwards more than outwards in the sensor hole it wont be easier....but I think it warrants an attempt if all else fails.

Source of thermal expansion data

Heat expansion of copper could be worse that the Aluminium....not sure.

But i reckon the heat should burn up any rust/oxide stuff in the gaps.

I've been meaning to buy a blow torch, I'll give it a couple more attempts with the rust eater and the vice grips, then a 'heat' solution, then belt the absolute #### out of it, then drill it to death.

That should just about cover it I think - I'll stick the solution that worked on my webpage when it is done.

Err...what's a copper drift?

I'm not familiar with that type of tool.

I assume it's some sort of tube?

Sounds like the sad truth had been layed upon me brother!

I'll give it some loving with some vice grips, drill and whatever else tickles my fancy with no regard for the sender itself....

When you gotta go you gotta go.

(I'll hold off until tomorrow Oz time) in case anyone else thinks of a brilliant strategy.

Thanks again all

Evening (or morning) Datsun lovers

I'm up to the next challenge in the whole engine strip/build.

Removal of the temperature sensor from the block.

I got the threaded sleeve off (it was really tight though) - now the sensor wont budge - a set of vice grips and a bunch of rust penetrant over a few days have not worked it loose.

Threaded sleeve coming off

Rust penetrant spray

I've run out of options, so thought I would draw on the collective experience of others....what do you think?

Hey all,

After the topcites website shut down on me mperdue stepped in and has hosted the site at
http://mildman.datsunprojects.org.

Thanks mperdue!

I hope you guys all get some use out of it.

The website shows in a million pictures the disassembly (and in progress) reassembly of an A12 engine.

Next plan is to show similar info with an A15 engine.

Then installation of the A15 into a 1200 Coupe.

Your right it could be a challenge Dodgeman, I haven't done it myself....I do know of a certain ute in this area that defintely has an A15 crank in it...I assume it has the A15 head on it as well, but not entirely familia with the setup....

I'm being evasive as I don't know if he wants people to know about it or not...

If you are a bit more ambituous (and not in the tech section) put the bottom end and internals of the A15 into the A12 block....saves changing the engine number too - I know one person who has done it sucessfully on this site....

Yes I had the same prob as cadet1200 - got a Microtech from a RB25DET, tried to put it on a CA18DET....no good had to send back to microtech from rework....$400 I believe. [Because it was 6 cyl to 4 cyl]...I thought it would just be a selection in the software like a Wolf3D...anyway.

There is a company called Maztech in Melbourne that specialise in tuning these things, and should be able to give you some advice on what you will need, but it may well depend on what engine the unit has come from

Welcome...

There is a "Tech Section" in the links on the left hand side of the website - it contains a number of engine swap ideas and how to do them.

A14, A14, CA18, SR20, L18 etc....
