There is a whole bunch of info on the CA18DET at boostcruising.com and nissansilvia.com. They have an article on all the common problems with the CA18, and the SR20 too.
Give them a try, and let us know if all their links are dead (I haven't checked them for a while)
Please tell me your garage is in Melbourne. I'm meant to race my 1200 Coupe next weekend...but as I blew the head gasket at Sandown a week ago I'm a bit put out for an engine.
I can see you live in Sydney, was just dreaming there for a second.
Pity, but thanks to the Melbourne cup I have Monday, Tuesday off work - so hopefullly I can source a cheap engine, to last one race, then stuff under another 1200 for road car duties.
I raced a 1200 Coupe at Sandown 2 weeks ago which all up cost $300, but that was with the stock 60hp powerhouse under the bonnet. Still heaps of fun, but I digress.
Does anyone have recommendations for honest and thorough roll cage builders in Victoria?
I've got this guy in Dandy to try and a friend who is a very experienced fitter and turner who might just do it for little more than material cost, but options are very good to have.
The more options you have the more you can decide about.
That's a fair enough call...but it may depend slightly on the form of racing one is engaged in. Sprints on circuits are pretty tame compared to rally and state comp racing.
Altough I think if it costs me a grand or more well then that is what is costs me to protect my life / legs / livelihood.
I guess I would feel pretty stupid if I ended up paralysed from the neck down for a moments lack of judgement, and a few dollars in my back pocket.
I'll see what sort of quotes I get anyway, if they are really good I let the guy know he may have more than one 1200 cage (as long as they are to the full 2003 CAMS specs)
