I'm sure a F1 car would be quicker.....

This thing is on slicks and isn't a passenger car - but whilst were comparing apples with oranges - here's a bannana I prepared earlier.

Remember my thread years ago about his Unfam?

Vice grips were my answer in the end.

I haven't driven Tritons much but can't remember anywhere near the understeer the Amarok would give. Also the feel on a bumpy road seemed smoother in a Triton.

If you'd driven a Ranger/BT50 though you'd be hard pressed to beat it in the segment at the moment.

Everyone will have new models soon enough, although I doubt the hilux will change in a hurry.

The Amarok is a good commerical vehicle, I am judging all of these trucks more on how close to passenger car handling they have - which is not what they are acutally designed to do so I guess I'm not judging them in the same way they are judged by those who want to buy them.

I imagine most people would care less how well they handle, they're trucks meant to carry a lot of #OOPS# and tow a lot of #OOPS#.

So I should declare my criteria a bit.

Don't want to dis on your Amarok either, I was just surprised a bit that it's handling that I expected it to piss all over the Mazda offering (being European) just didn't.

BT50/Ranger has roll over mitigation, trailer sway mitigation, load adaptive control, hill hold control, hill descent control, ABS, traction control, stability control...and drives like a car. (I might be a bit biased though).

It is fair to say it is a generation ahead of the triton, so two generations aheads of the Amaroks and Hiluxes of this world.

And the Hilux/Amarok would be at least another generation of design ahead of the chinese stuff

The Mazda/Ford is pricey though.

I should really drive a Colorado and see if they are any good, as I imagine they are a fair bit cheaper.

If we'd done the Great Wall it probably would have cost more...

You should try a BT50 or Ford Ranger - segment leaders I say.

I've driven Amarok, Triton, Ranger/BT50 (same car). We don't have the Great Wall commerical vehicles, but do have the passenger cars - they are getting close to making a car that operates like a car but around 40 years behind the game at the moment (will probably only take them 5-10 years to be reasonable.)

Look at Hyundai and Kia, they now make cars you could consider normal. They can go around corners, go over bumps, are reliable and have reasonable interiors.

By the way I'd rate big 4WD commericals in this order
1. BT50/Ranger
2. Triton
3. Amarok
4. Hilux
5. Anything else

If I'd driven a Nissan I bet I'd rate it higher than Amarok at a guess, I might be a bit fussy but I was very surprised at the amount of understeer that thing can produce, but I'm told the Hilux is worse.

Mmmmm car rant....

It only gets 2 stars on the ANCAP system is that is the default amount a commerical vehicle gets without having to pass any tests....

Probably safer than a 1200.....just.

Death on wheels by todays standards, I drive them at work they are very very bad, even worse than a hilux - now that is saying something.
