what I've always done with a 4 cylinder engine is turn it over until the valves on cylinder 1 are "rocking' - which means one is closing and the other opening. If you move the crank forwards and backwards at that point you see the two valves "rocking" and that means you can do the valve adjustment on cylinder 4. Then do the other cylinders accordingly:
4 rocking - adjust 1
3 rocking - adjust 2
2 rocking - adjust 3

Not a genuine GX5 gear knob, but a genuine Nissan dogleg knob, which I believe is an oem part for a B210 US model (which was fitted with a 63A gearbox). I had a bunch of them and they were snapped up fairly quickly at $30 a pop:

It was (to my surprise!) more than 8 years ago. They were all in nissan boxes.
I might still have one left somewhere or there might be someone out there who bought one in 2006 and either didn't use it or no longer needs it.

Among what is clearly a treasure trove, do you happen to have an auto tailshaft?

I'm pretty sure I have one somewhere at home datsunbeginner, if you want to buy one. Bought it a loooooong time ago and then ended up buying a manifold and carbs complete. I acn dig it out, photograph it and measure the ports if you want. It's the same one as in clyons photo - the bottom one with GX cast in.
