I had a B310 with a 'worked' A12. 1287cc, mild cam, GX head, twin 40s, extractors. In full road going spec (ie not stripped out) did 16.6 quarter mile at 82mph. My guess is 9 secs (ish) to 62mph/100kmh.

I believe the L13 and maybe L14 ran a smaller diametre clutch (same as A series) than L16+.

I cut my engine to pieces tonight and i´m impressed by the cylinderwall thickness! It varies from 5,5 - 7,5mm.

Are these block thicknesses on a standard 76mm bore A14?

It's check valve to maintain brake shoe position. With discs now fitted it should be removed and bypassed.

I recall reading that in Cosworth's early years (early 1960s) they achieved something like 110bhp from the humble Ford Anglia 105E engine. This was a 1-Ltr, Non-crossflow head (ie ports all on same side like Datsun A series), cast iron head (unlike Datsun's supierior alloy head), 3-bearing crank ... and on just a single down-draft carbureter! (ie not twin side-drafts). Clearly this would have been a very peaky engine and I think it was fitted to a (no doubt light) single seater of the time.

I believe 200bhp is achievable from an A15 (but certainly not easy or cheap). As to drivability, I believe Rick Bone's 207bhp car is EFI etc which would help considerably vs carbs.

Regarding converting an OD 5 speed to a 1:1 5-speed - it is theoretically possible with a 60L (ie the dog-leg 1st box. The reason for this is that the standard box's 4th/5th shift rod uses a 'flick-over' lever to achieve 1:1 4th where 3rd would usually be in a standard 4-speed. If you eliminate this in a standard box it would swap the position of 4th and OD 5th. Then you use a custom gear-set with what was OD 5th as an under-driven 4th gear followed by 1:1 5th.

Stock pattern & gears)
R-2-4(1:1)
1-3-5(O/D)

Stock gears/mod'd pattern)
R-2-5(O/D)
1-3-4(1:1)

Mod'd gears & pattern
R-2-4(U/D)
1-3-5(1:1)

..... However, I remain sceptical this box has had this done until I've seen a picture of its internals.

Can't see how you can shorten the rocker cover: Most decent cams see std rocker adjusters hitting the cover already (hence raised rocker covers). Imagine you'll be looking at a modded cam to make the most of those carbs.

Not mine. Must say I'm pretty sceptical. Description matches 56A 1:1 5 speed yet it's a 60 series case. If it really is genuine would be a great box.
