Early A12s differ from later ones:
- early ones have the timing marks on the pulley
- later engines have the timing marks on the cover

My GUESS would be that the A10 is like the early A12?

Presumably wasted spark also burn out the spark plugs twice as fast?

I just run high temp RTV and no gasket (inlet or exhaust). Works fine. Don't think it would work too well without good mating surfaces though.

Thanks - yes I'd done that and have same issue as you. Seems therefore it's supposed to be possible but doesn't work at present.

Maybe I didn't explain properly: is it possible to be automatically/already logged in whenever visiting this site? Many sites seem to have this convenient feature but i haven't worked out how to do so on 1200.com. (I think I used to be able to before the major site upgrade a year or so back)

...and why is it that I can't stay logged on to this site? Or is it the site set-up/does everyone have same issue?

The blue/oil smoke shouldn't affect how it runs. I ran a very smokey A12 for a few years. Ran sweet as a nut but just had to keep an eye on the oil level. Likewise I doubt the lower comp on the one cylinder would make a noticeable difference, at least just in a light run/warm up etc. Static advance of 8-10 should be good.

I'm with DD - I say someone's messed with the carb. Did you sort the choke butterfly issue or is it still closed?

Assuming you've re-assembled the carb correctly and its a standard A series downdraft carb, and so long as it's complete (eg not missing a jet) the only adjustment is idle speed and idle/low speed mixture.

Does it have the inlet manifold type with the rubber airtube that runs to the aircleaner? If it does but it wasn't reconnected, it would run rough.

Racers run Mini engines on single 48s so not unheard of to run a small 4 on such a set-up. But I'd suggest low down tractability would be rubbish for a street car.
