I need to replace valves in my race engine. Currently has Stainless 40mm Inlet and 33mm Exhaust. Stems are 8mm but are 'wasted' down to about 6mm where they pass through the ports.
One of the Inlet valve heads broke up so I want to replace them all.
I bought the engine already built up but was told the valves were VW.
Am keen to hear all suggestions for replacements or what others have used?

In your diagram you have the signal feed to the tacho to the + side of the coil. It should be connected to the - side of the coil.
To work, tachos need: 1) "-" side of coil for rpm pulse/feed; 2) earth; 3) "+" power feed usually via ign switch (although I have a Stewart Warner after market tacho which doesn't require a power feed. It just has earth and "-" side of coil)
The wire to the + side of the coil is simply the coils power feed from the + side of the battery/ignition. By wiring as per the diagram you essentially just have both sides of the coil connected to the + side of the battery.

I see the top hose is on the correct side for A series engine. What side is the lower hose?

Factory offered 76.8mm competition pistons for 1298cc capacity. 78mm bore isn't unheard of (but probably getting risky maximum) for 1340cc.

In order to sell cars, British makers needed to keep the taxable power[?] of their engines as low as possible, so small bores & long strokes were the order of the day.
This explains my 1964 Triumph Vitesse engine: 1600cc 6 cylinder (sleeved down 2000cc engine).

Not sure why there is a misconception that Webers (and Dellortos) go out of tune. They are fixed jet and the only thing adjustable on them is the idle mixture and balance (when two or more carbs), and these only change if using a screw-driver). Properly set up Webers/Dellortos, especially on a 'mild' engine, are very tractable and relatively economical (though unlikely to be as economical as "SU" type carbs. That said, no carbs can ever be tuned perfectly across the rev and load range like EFI. With a $1k budget I'd go Side-Drafts everytime. Gives plenty of scope for further tuning in future too. GW

! That's disgusting talk - wash your mouth out!! Similarities: 4 cylinders, pushrods, pretty much The End. Differences (some): Datsun has steel crank, steel rods, alloy head, inclined valves, 8 ports, Over-square (A12), doesn't leak, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc.

Regarding the dyno printout: why are there two different sets of power and torque readings (and at different - presumably 'peak' - rpms)?
