You put 100% into words what I plan to do. Thanks

In South Africa we also get roughly the same summer temp as in Australia.
Between 30 - 34 degrees celsius.

Hi ddgonzal

My GX is a 1977 model.
I think they stopped making them here in 1978.
Although our GX's did'nt get a special bonnet like in your countries.

So you say that in some countries the sedan's did'nt have heaters.
That is interesting.
I am then going to remove the hoses and just clean out everything in the radiator, but not connect it up again when putting it back.
Then I am just to be safe going to run a pipe from the cylinder head back to the radiator pipe as I have mentioned in my previous post.
Thanks for the help.

Hi all.
I am about to remove the hoses that runs into and from my heater box.
My switch is stuck in the close position and I cannot find a replacement.Ute one's are totally different.
I also do not want to butcher my airbox to fit something else.
I now want to remove the heater usage by running a water hose from the back of my cylinder head to the front where the radiator pipe is.
This will be asif the heater is turned on but actually the water will not flow through the heater but through the hose back to the normal water flow.

Is this OK?
I know there was a discussion that one must not block off the pipes as it will cause cylinder head to over heat. This is why I want to do this.
Any information is appreciated as I want to finish with this problem as soon as possible.
Thanks

I do not think it is the fully synthetic that buggered your friends engine, but rather the viscosity.
Castrol Futron is also fully synthetic or at least part synthetic.
BUT the viscosity is better.(I cannot remember now but it is not 0W-30)

I ran Castrol GTX2 but they have released in South Africa a replacement called Castrol High Milage.
All my cars still have little miles on them and I do not want to use these type of oils that are thicker to prevent oil usage due to wear.
I want to see if it uses oil so that I can know how serious the wear is.
I now have changed to Engen Super 20W-50.
It is the only oil that is approved by Volvo for South African conditions.
I have heard some Volvo 850 T5's here coming in just for a routine service with
450 000km on the clock.
These volvos have turbos on them.
We all know how much stress a turbo puts on oil.
Engen is the south african brand name for Mobil.
Mobil changed a few years ago to this name for south africa.
So I was informed.

Hi there.
I am in the process of building a little performance A12.
My A12 engine has the GX head on it that I do not want to use as they are very scarse to find.
I went a few weeks back to the place that sells Japenese imported engines here.
I got hold of a A15 head that also had the H89 marking on it and I think I am going to buy one and use it for the following reasons:

1. It has the same oval ports as my GX head.
I also looked inside the ports and could not find any swirl flow blockages that can make flow slower.
2. When I looked at the combustion chamber, it also had a heart shaped chamber like my GX head. This gives 10:1 comp.

I think this is the closest head to the GX that I can find and you have this head, I think.
I would go with the head and the SU's.
see how they work.
If they do not work very nice then try something else.
They are great for fuel economy.

Another update on this thread.

I went there again.
The number on the head is H89.
I looked in the technical section but there is no information on this head.
Will this head work on a A12 engine block?
And is it a good head for performance?

How does a harmonic balancer work?

Hi all

I am just curious on how does a harmonic balancer work?
Can one construct a harmonic balancer yourself?
Where is it fitted onto the engine?
Does anyone have experience with one to tell if it makes a difference?

Thanks

Just an update on this forum I posted a few weeks ago.
I went this morning to the place that sells Japenese imported engines.
We found two A15 engines.
Unfortunately it was too dark inside the place to see the number casted ontop of the head to compair to the technical information on this site.
I did however remember all the stuff that I read on the technical page and found the following:

Due to it being to bad lighted to see inside the ports, I used my finger to feel if there is any obstruction inside all the intake ports.
No obstructions were found.
I could only feel the valve guides and valves.
They were oval port with water jackets.
When looking to the combustion chamber, it also has a heart shaped chamber like the pictures of the GX heads in the tech section.
Possibly 10:1 comp.
What do you guys think.
Is it a good buy?
The price was not too much.

Hi Nicholas

As far as I remember you have a VW beach buggy with the A14 in the back, right?
OK.
The thing is hot air is less dence than cold air. basically your engine is getting more oxygen in when cold as when it is hot.
That is why when cold your car will perform better than when it is hot.
Something else.
I really do not think it is extractors that is causing your car to rev less in top gear.
At about 150km/h, that you mention, the wind is so quick that the heat has no time to get to the carbs.
When you idle at the traffic light it will cause a problem of less power.
I would fit a heat shield anyway for dragracing so that when you are waiting at the line your carbs does'nt cook and give less performance.
Try also to make a ram air effect to your carbs for when you are driving fast the air is forced from the front to your carbs or carb.

Guys, please correct me if I am wrong, but I think it is something like that.

Goodluck

Good to hear exams are over.
I remember when I was still at university..........hhhmmmm.
That was good times.
Hope it goes well with the marks.

Back to datsun business.
Try and get her on a dyno when sorted out and if possible a scan of the dyno sheet.
I am very curious on the twin turbo setup what it does on paper.
We wants it.
