Hi guys.
A friend of mine wants to replace his 1200 deluxe sedan's 4 speed box with a A14 utility 5speed box.
This is because they are plenty available here in South Africa.
His 4speed is wining and he said he wants a 5speed.
Will it fit in the trans tunnel and also what about the gearbox mounting?
Thanks

I do not think my clutch cable is incorrectly adjusted. I have done it according to the manual that is on this site.
It is as if the cable is binding due to insufficient lubrication or asif the clutch is sort of heavy duty. I wonder if it is not the clutch that is of poor quality and causing more preasure than other clutches to disengage.

It is a LUK clutch kit that was installed a few years back.
My clutch I am going to replace with a VALEO as someone told me LUK is not that good.
What do you guys think of VALEO clutches.
I was at their website and saw they give a 2 year guarantee while LUK gives a 1 year guarantee.

I remember you have told me Nicholas.
Thanks for the info that you gave me.
I am also planning to fiddle with a A12 engine in the future.I know someone in Welkom where you can buy fully rebuild A12 for cheap. want to get a 1200 deluxe sedan and put it in there just to play with over weekends. This is of course waaaay in the future.

I know a friend who is going to put a volkswagen 2litre 16valve engine into his beach buggy.(As far as I remember you are putting in a A14)
Just think how that thing is going to go

Everything in the datsun is 100% standard.
The pedals was never removed from the car.
The non genuine cable I bought and went to Nissan to compare to a genuine Nissan cable from the utilities.
It is exactly the same length everything.
Even the cable on the inside is the same.
To give you an idea.
We work here in South Africa with the Rand as money.
The non-genuine cable was 60 rand.
The genuine one is 400 rand.

Hi Guys.
I do not know if anyone of you have similar experience and can maybe give me advice.

I drive a 94 volkswagen mk1 that still uses the old clutch cable method of depressing the clutch.(mk1 still also being made here in South Africa).
They have a reputation of not being one of the softest clutches in the world due to the cable usage.
My problem is that my datsun's original 77 clutch cable's age and wear got to it and I needed to replace it.
I bought a non genuine clutch cable after going to Nissan to check out the genuine cable.
The nissan cable looks exactly the same as the non genuine cable even on the inside but costs 6 to 7 times more.
My problem is that it it is very hard to press when shifting.
I have used engine oil with only minor effects and after driving a day or two it is still difficult to use.
I cleaned it out and used dry lube that I bought for my mountain bike's chain.
(I do mountain biking over weekends)
It is a wet wax that flows like a liquid and after 5 hours the liquid has changed into a wax deposit.Great dry lube.
I applied it over a time frame of 5 days.
Every day I come home from work poring some into one end until it comes out on the other end.
The 5th day I applied alot of copper compound grease to the ends and installed the cable.
It made a HUGE difference.Much lighter.
Much better to use the clutch in traffic.
But after 3 days now it starts to come back to being a effort in using the clutch.
It is not that difficult to press but it is a little bit heavier than my Mk1.
Is yours also a bit heavy?
If not any suggestions on what I must do to get it lighter.
My problem is that I have felt alot of people's A14 utilities.
They are much lighter than my clutch.
The clutch is not a culprit because it was replaced a year ago.
It had no effect on the old cable then indicating that it was the clutch.

I also love my Datsun.

I think it is ok to love your datsun.
Just as long as you don't MAKE love to your datsun.

Hi guys.
I would just like to get your opinions on the following.
In the service manual of our datsuns they state that engine oil of weight 30W or 40W must be used and with the API specification of SF.
On my previous thread I posted on engine oil some guys replied by saying they use synthetic oils.
I am using Castrol GTX2 with the specs of 20W-50 and SL as the API.
Is it possible that we are using too advanced oil for the engine in the way that it will cause more harm than protection? I read once in a cars service manual "do not use synthetic oil".(cannot remember what car)
This is just out of curiosity what I want to know what you guys think.

My personal opinion is that I think we will get longer engine life with todays oils as when we use oils with the specs they give in the manuals.
Meaning the engines was build to use the lower spec oils of those long gone years but we are using far more advanced oils increasing the overal engine protection.

Dodgeman.
Sorry about the stupid wordings that I am using.
Halfway is middle.

Thanks for all of your comments everybody.
I presume it must then be fine if it stays exactly in the middle of the temp gauge and vary only little when road conditions change.
I will however test it at 120km/h or more.
I have an idea it will run hotter when I am going to increase my speed.
Only testing will tell.
But I must admit I did make progress cheap so far.I will however not be able to drive fast but that is ok.
I enjoy just cruising in my datsun.
Thanks Dodgeman.

Quinn.
To reply to your post.
It is a 74 degrees celcius that I have bought.

I have the same problem with my 1200 GX sedan.
Mine is however doing the following:
When I fill her up at the gas station, they cannot do it at "full speed" with the pump.
They must do it very slowly otherwise it will "spit" fuel out of the filler pipe where you put the line in to fill her up.
Basically a airlock. So I tell them everytime to do it slowly.
This is however not the problem.
When my fuel tank is either half filled or more
it smells when ONLY turning to the left on a road. On 90 degree left turns or left turns that is taken faster than normal.
I think it is spilling fuel out somewhere at the fuel tank.

I rather enjoy it.
Makes me forget about the problems at work when driving home in the afternoon
