Just thinking, the dipstick. Will it not give incorrect level because there is a difference between the A12 and A14 or are they the same just different cc's.

Hi all
OK, I phoned around and can get A14 bottom end cheaper than I thought with the following:
A14 block.
A14 crank, conrods and pistons.
Oil Pump.
No Distributor.
No waterpump.
probably no dip stick.

Can I use the following:
My GX distributor. (It is going to get GX cylinder head and reground cam)
A12 waterpump.
A12 dipstick.

My A12 has the altenator sitting under the water inlet pipe. It has been rebuild recently. Will this altenator bolt up to the place where the A14 altenator sits, meaning, up next to dizzy.

Newest update. I phoned a local car wrecker. The A14 sub assembly is the same price as a new set of lifters from Nissan. Can you believe that. I can just as well then for that price go A14.
This will include the following:
A14 block.
crank.
pistons and conrods.
No altenator.
No flywheel.
Flywheel not a prob as I am going to get my A12 one ligtened
Altenator can not be that expensive.
What worries me is the clutch. I think mine has a brand new A12 clutch on it. Will it handle the torque?
Will take my chance with the 56A and see what happens.
If the bore looks good I can just hone.

It is a difficult one for me. The 5 speed gearbox is totally out of the question. They are plentyfull but really crazy in price. I can completely rebuild the A12 for the money the 5 speed cost here.
I still have the h145 diff aswell.

I am not the kind that does burnouts and drop the clutch hard. I do however want to take the car to the track one or 2 times when done to get the feel of it.
I can go A12 and then bike fuel injection or A14 worry about breaking gearbox and run SU's.
What do you think?

What about the gearbox. My car is still using the 56A 4 speed.
I doubt it will handle the torque of A14 or even the A15.

Damn pictures are blocked. Follow their advice, they all sound good.

I run in mine Engen Xtreme 15W-40. But in your case, you don't know the condition of the engine. Rather then run a cheaper oil like Castrol GTX 20W-50. The newest bottle has anti sludge stuff in it and is not SG but I think SJ.

Ok, a friend and I talked about this to decide.

Keeping budget in mind, what would you do?
Let's say in my case, the car already has a A12 and is already registered with it. The A14 you would have to go and buy and re-register in the car.

I would say money wise it is better to keep A12, but performance wise go A14.

Is there really a huge difference between A12 and A14?
Boofhead once answered me that he owned both and said the only difference is torque.
Why I also say A12 is not too bad is that his little A12 could keep up with some big guns on the track when attending track days making me think that one must not under estimate the A12 engine.
